Chemistry Midterm Self Assessment and Goal-Setting

Reflection-

Atomic Theory:

Strengths were memorizing ionization energy and the trends on the periodic table. These things were easy to remember because they are easy concepts to understand. Weaknesses were determining an atoms radii size. For some atoms it made sense that their radii sizes were small or big, but for other atoms I could never figure why it was the size that it is.

Bonding:

My strengths in the Bonding unit was drawing lewis diagrams and determining the shape. The lewis diagrams was my strongest strength because I learned it last year, and for determining the shape of the atoms was easy if you memorized how many bond and lone pairs equals to a specific shape. Weaknesses were discovering if it was how the dipole’s determine if the shape if polar or non-polar. It was hard to tell if a shape was polar or non-polar by just using which direction the dipoles were pointing to, some equations were obvious and others were much harder to figure out.

The Mole:

The strengths I have in The Mole unit is my ability to learn quickly and question my peers. When beginning the mole unit I was not present for the lesson and missed key points of the unit but I recovered because I researched and studied, I also questioned my peers about the answers they got and they managed to achieve it. The weakness I have in this unit is my ability to solve word problems and remembering each equation to help solve the word problems. The word problems began to confuse me and made me frustrated when I could not solve them or my answer was far from being right. Trying to remember each equation and how to properly use them was also making this unit very hard for me to understand.
