Literary Device: Symbolism
Description:
The scene chosen to be acted out was Mathilde choosing her necklace from the story “The Necklace”-Guy de Maupassant. One night her husband comes home with an invitation to a ball, in hope that this will get Mathilde out of the house. She views the invitation and immediately says no because she has nothing to wear. Mathilde had been moping around her house for a very long time. She does this because she is depressed that her husband can’t afford nicer things for her to wear. To cheer her up, her husband buys her a new dress for the event, but another problem occurs when she has no jewellery. Mathilde’s husband gave her the idea to visit her wealthy friend, Madame Forestier, to borrow her jewels. She looks through all her jewels that she offers and only one catches her eye. The diamond necklace. Luckily for her Madame Forestier allowed her to wear that necklace for the night. The literary device we chose was symbolism because the necklace Mathilde chose has a deeper meaning. The diamond necklace symbolizes her greed for materialistic things and that she is very hard to impress because the other necklaces were too simple for her. In later events, she learns an important lesson about valuing money and being thankful for what she has.
Core Competency:
The beginning of this projected started with my group’s first problem. Our first problem was having one of our group members sick, we were able to over come this problem by communicating with her over Snapchat. Being put in a group with four people was hard for me because I’m a very independent worker but to solve my issue I made sure to listen to everyones opinion and use their ideas in script writing and props making sure that they don’t leave feeling unheard. When it came to organizing what are film was going to look like my group was pretty absent, I had to write a script for everyone and organize what props were needed because no one else was going to do it. I did not enjoy working with groups because someone is always slacking off leaving the work to me or the rest of the group. When it came to filming it was very unorganized and scrappy but we made it work. Knowing that in the future I will have to work in groups again I learned two things to help me, assign different jobs to people, and make sure that everyone is connected and knows whats going on at all times.
