For this Community Connections project I have chosen to interview Sarah Stefani. I chose Sarah because she is an Interior Designer. An Interior Designer develops ideas and produce artistic, practical and safe designs for interior spaces. Sarah helps people design their homes by knowing what they look for in their decorating ideas. I chose to interview Sarah because of her job and roles that she does for a living. I find that decorating homes, offices, rooms etc to be very fun and interesting because of the different people and the styles that they want you to decorate their home. I have learned from this interview that Interior Designing is harder than it looks, but I think it is worth going through all the trouble to help others design their homes. Interior Designing connects to my interests because I love to design my room and create things for my room such as paintings or things made with wood or clay.
I contacted Sarah over Instagram and this is how our conversation went
- Can you explain your roles and responsibilities with your current position?
-“In my current position there are a lot of different things I am asked to do, and these tasks can change from each project we take on.
2. What obstacles have you faced to get where you are today?
-“Obstacles I have faced in my career have been me choosing to stay home and raise my children instead of staying in my field of work. Also when the economy is weak people do not focus on home improvement which means less work for me.”
3.What advice would you pass on to someone interested in what you are doing?
-“The advice I would give to a future designer is be flexible. Be willing to start out work in a number of different areas of design. Examples: Get a job working for a supplier (flooring, stone, fabric) that way you learn knowledge of dealing with different materials and how they all work. It is very hard to know everything in this field of work and its better to learn all you can about all different aspects of the job.”
4. Why are you passionate about your job or role?
-“I love my job and being part of a team that helps create designs that improve peoples quality of life.”
5. Why did you choose occupation?
-“I was drawn to being a Interior Designer because my Aunt was a Interior Designer. I looked up to her & I loved the way she designed her home. I was always interested from a young age by design, I would constantly rearrange my bedroom to find the best way it could be laid out.”
6. What do you like most about your job?
-“Being able to transform someone’s space to be more enjoyable by surrounding them with things they love as well as making the home be more efficient to all their needs is very rewarding.”
