When we were about to begin our science experiment, Mr. Robinson was going to each group and handing out a scoopula and a buret, he told everyone that the “Buret is meant to measure specific amounts of liquid, releasing small amounts of acids or bases into other solutions”, he also said “the scoopula is meant for scooping solids/powders”. After Mr Robinson explained to everyone what a scoopula and buret is, he came over to see if everyone had their equipment ready, when he came over to my partner he had to remind my him to wear his safety goggles multiple times. Mr.Robinson was about to show us how to properly mix these two chemicals together until he was about to grab another solution but then knocked down the experiment and the table caught fire, a girl in the class ran to the fire extinguisher and put out the fire, Mr. Robinson was very impressed and said what she did was the right thing to do.
After that accident everyone was shook but we needed to start our new project. Me and my partner were handed a hot plate, Florence flask and a graduated cylinder. Mr. Robinson said “The hot plate is used to heat the Florence flask and the graduated cylinder is used to measure the liquids that we are about to boil”. We began boiling our solutions and it began to spew up, my partner at the time wasn’t wearing his safety goggles and got the solution in his eyes. He began to run around the room screaming, “Help! it burns”, everyone was yelling at him to stop and wash it out, but it was too late he ran into a wall and his nose began to bleed. If he would have stopped and let me guide him to the eye wash station he wouldn’t be in as much pain as he is now.
After a few days of first starting science with Mr. Robinson we began class by talking about ethical dilemma of human-animal hybrids. Many people have opinions on this subject such as we should never do it or it could be an interesting experiment. I personally agree that we should do it because I want to see what would happen if you mix human DNA with a fox’s DNA. If we were to mix the two what would the brain look like?

Good work on your fictional safety story. You communicated your understanding of safety issues in the Science class and included many pieces of scientific equipment. Don’t forget to describe what your safety symbols mean. Good work sharing about a Science ethical dilemma.
Thank you.
