CC Self-Assessment – Math 9

In Math 9, we have learned many skills for life as well as combining those maybe difficult areas with fun activities like using Desmos or doing a group activity. You will see many ‘I can’ statements throughout this post, but I have a main one that I will directly compare to math at the bottom. Here is my self analysis:

What have you accomplished so far in Math 9?

I have accomplished many things in Math 9. Some of which are the ability to understand word problems better. I can ask questions and consider opinions and I demonstrate this by always asking the teacher or a peer when I am struggling. I am able to consider different strategies in the way people solve a problem as well as imputing my own ways to help others.

How have you developed in this course?

I have developed the capacity to work even when I am frustrated or stressed out and push myself through to get my work done and understand the material that’s given to us. I can consider more than one new way to proceed and make choices. I am able to look at different ways to solve something and choose the one that works the best for me.

What are some notable experiences that you could draw upon?

I can explore and engage with materials and sources. I was able to adapt to new sources like Desmos (which I don’t think I’ve used before this class) and also new people since I don’t know many people in the Math class. I am able to work and also help others with work if it is something new that maybe I am able to understand faster than other people.

I can examine my thinking, seek feedback, reassess my work, and adjust.
I have demonstrated this in Math 9 by being able to change what I’m doing when something isn’t working. When I get stuck on a question, I usually rethink what the question is asking and if I still don’t understand I ask the teacher or a peer for help. Once I get the feedback needed, I am able to redo the question the correct way and figure out what I was doing wrong so I am able to understand why I got it wrong and what to do next time I come across a question similar to that question.

CC Self-Assessment – Socials 9

In Science Humains (or Socials) 9, we learned about revolutions like the French and American one. This reflection is more going to be on a project which was making a timeline for the French revolution.

I am open-minded and patient, taking the time to explore, discover, and understand.

This project took me a while because I was unsure of some of the events and how to describe them, so I was able to be patient with myself to try and find the correct information. I process things very slowly, so I had to take a while to be able to explain them as well as try and match a picture with the events. Finding the pictures also took a while, so I had to take a while to explore with my resources.

I can find some evidence and make judgments.

I was able to find evidence of what was true or not and make my own judgements. Sometimes it was difficult to find sources that said the same thing just because history is kind of subjective just because of how many different theories there are. I had to collect the information and evidence I had and make my own judgements of what was correct and what wasn’t.

I can examine my thinking, seek feedback, reassess my work, and adjust.

For some of the events, I thought it was something different than what it really was, so sometimes I had to step back and look at what I thought and the sources before coming to a conclusion. Sometimes it was difficult so I did ask questions and I was able to reassess by using the help of a friend or a teacher.

CC Self-Assessment – Visual Arts 10

In Art Studio 10, we had to do a project dedicated to face proportions and just the general face of a person. To make the project more fun, we had to make ourselves a superhero/villain. I decided to reflect on this since I think it was a kind of a difficult project since my style of art isn’t very realistic and this was supposed to be more realistic proportions.

I generate new ideas as I pursue my interests.

I am more comfortable with digital art instead of traditional since it’s been what I have more experience with and I was really into my idea for the character I would create. I wasn’t really proud of the full face one, but the one that has the green bands I was quite happy with because it was the original idea I had for this self-portrait and I got to do it. This relates to the statement because as I pursued with the drawing, I was able to get more ideas and a better visual of what I wanted. I did say this was my original idea and it was, but I didn’t have a very clear visual, just a general idea.

My creative ideas are often a form of self-expression for me.

My art is something I use to express myself a lot since I find it difficult sometimes and using my creativity helps. For this one, there wasn’t much emotion or self expression per say, but there was a lot of thought put into it. For the ones with the bands, it was something that I was pretty proud of. I also really enjoyed the eye that connected the cloak type thing because it was, in my opinion, a good addition because of the whited out eye.

I am willing to take significant risks in my thinking.

This to me was a risk because as I said, my style isn’t really realistic and so the drawing was a challenge. I had a lot of trouble with the eyes and to me they still look off for some reason and I am unsure why. This risk helped me figure out that if I work hard enough I might be able to get to a point where my art can be more realistic if I want it.

Unit 1 Summary – Math 9

On February 14th, we started a math project discussing out first unit. We had to pick one topic and demonstrate it using examples and important facts/tips that other students might need to know. I have chosen to demonstrate how to estimate imperfect square roots and then for my harder example, I showed how to be more precise using Heron’s method. My work is attached below.

Community Connection

On January 27th, 2022, we were instructed to complete an assignment that consisted of interviewing an individual of which had a role in something we were passionate about.

I chose to interview a streamer who is known by the name Norina, who is a content creator. She has the responsibility of keeping their community safe, keeping up her schedule and many other things that will be mentioned later in this blog. I chose to interview her because I also create content on multiple platforms and it’s something that I really enjoy. I chose to do content creation because I want to attract a good community and share my work. I also really enjoy it and want to make other feel better because of something that I did. Basically, I would like to be a comfort person for others. I contacted her through Discord and I asked her 6 questions. Here are her replies.

1. Can you explain your roles and responsibilities with your current position?

“My current position includes being a small business owner with an online shop, being a content creator on multiple platforms and being an artist.

Some of the responsibilities include:

  • Marketing myself and my business (streams, YouTube videos, online shop, art, etc.)
  • Sticking to a set schedule so people know when they can expect to see my content
  • Plan content ahead of time
  • Create the content and engage with my audience”

2. What obstacles have you faced to get you where you are today?

“Growing at a very slow rate is one of many obstacles I’ve faced. Now that streaming has become so popular a lot of my community has asked for advice on streaming and how to grow as a creator. As wonderful as it is to help others try something new it does come at a cost because most of those people end up leaving the community to start their own journey as a creator. Another obstacle I’ve ran into is that I’m running out of time to complete everything that needs to be done each day. One person can only do so much work. Sometime in the near future I’ll either need to hire someone to do specific tasks for me or I may need to remove something from my business until I’m able to hire someone.”

3. What advice would you pass on to someone interested in what you are doing?

“My advice for someone wanting to be a creator of any kind is to invest time into gaining skills that will help you with whatever type of creative work you want to make. You’ll need to be very disciplined and work hard to make your creative business a success. There are a lot of free resources that can help you along the way even if your interests change. Audience size isn’t important in the beginning, if you’re looking to be a creator because of money then you’re getting into it for the wrong reasons. If you enjoy being creative and want to share that with other people that’s when you know you’re doing it for the right reason. Do things because you enjoy them not for money or fame.”

4. Why are you passionate about your job or role?

“I’m passionate about my job because I get to connect with people from all over the world, create a safe space where people can come to relax after a long day, and make life long friends. This isn’t just a job for me, it’s something I truly love doing because of the people I’m able to surround myself with.”

5. What strategies have you used to avoid burnout in the streaming industry?

“I think this will differ for each person. Over the last 5 years I’ve only really felt true burnout once. Some signs of burnout for me include finding streaming or making videos less enjoyable, feeling an unreasonable amount of stress, focusing on the wrong things like numbers etc. When I start to notice any of these things happen I take a step back and give myself a little time to rest and take my mind off of anything work related. This could be in the form of taking a few days off to rest or taking that time to refocus and remind myself what is truly important to me. Quick note on taking time off, I determine my work hours because I’m self employed, not everyone gets to do that. Most traditional jobs give their employees days off and those days are typically what help people relax and recover until the next week starts. I don’t actually take days off for the most part, I usually work some amount every single day because that’s what works for me. I do take breaks throughout my days and some days I only do a few hours worth of work. Being a content creator or self employed small business owned is a very different then having a more traditional job.”

Where do you see yourself in 5 years

6. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

“That is always a difficult question to answer. I can only guess at this point based on my what I’ve roughly planned out. I’m pretty sure I’ll still be streaming since the industry is still growing and it’s something I love doing. I will likely be taking art and or animation commissions to increase my overall income for my business. Many things are unknown but I do know that I will be continuing to grow my business in various ways because I love the work I do. Making a sustainable living doing this type of work is really difficult and takes a lot of work and a good amount of trial and error to see what works for you.”

WHAT DID I LEARN?

What I took away from this interview:
From this interview, I learned many things. I personally have self-doubts a lot, but this interview showed me that fame and numbers don’t matter and that growing at a slow rate isn’t just happening to me. Yes, many other creators are growing very quickly, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t have a chance. I now understand better that content creation takes a lot of time and patience as well as resilience. It can be considered a dream job for people, but the real industry can be very rough and stressful. I have learned a new strategy to work through my burnout that I will be able to try out if I ever feel burnt-out in this industry. I have also seen how time management is a big part of content creation.

HOW DOES THIS RELATE TO WHAT I’M PASSIONATE ABOUT AND WHAT OPPORTUNITIES DOES IT OPEN?

Well, I really love what I do, but now I can understand better how much work I need to put into this to continue doing what I love. Without this interview, I don’t think I will be able to have the opportunity to continue this in the next years because it has taught me a lot of things. The opportunity of continuing my content creation has been opened up further. I have learned skills that I will need to know and understand in this industry as well as really facing the challenges and how to overcome them.

CC Self-Assessment – PE 9

During the course of gym, I have learned many useful skills that I can use in the future. It has taught me many things and how to take care of myself and my well-being. This unit, I have been shown skills and how my decisions can impact my future. This will help me in the coming years to make good decisions for my future. Here is my self-assessment.

This is a picture of me being healthy because I was with my family and having a good time. It contributes to my social well-being since I am with people who make me feel good, so it helps my mental health. Also, this was when we were on a walk of some sort so it was also good for my physical health.

HCE 9 – Explanatory Paragraph

On December 14th, 2021, my English 9 class started a project by looking at four images and inspecting them. We needed to choose one image and go in a dive further than before into what this image means and what it’s trying to tell us. I chose to pursue this with the image titled “Birds on a wire” by Banksy. Enjoy.

INCLUSIVITY

This illustration represents the racism that is in the world. The group of birds symbolizes the white people and white privilege that they think they have since they have the “power” to protest and riot against the rights of others and the police will barely do anything about it, but if coloured people decide to do the same thing, there will be a lot of police involved. The green bird symbolizes the coloured community and what they have to endure tremendously which can even be a day-to-day routine. The wire can also represent land or some type of country. This can come back to white privilege again, since it shows how the group of birds think they basically have ownership over the wire, but it’s something that’s exposed and open to all birds, so the types of bird on the wire shouldn’t matter, since it’s something that’s open to the birds. This can also represent immigrants and it shows how a lot of people act when they see someone. People treat immigrants and coloured people as if they were from another planet, as if they were another species that they want to get rid of and remove, but they’re still human. The coloured bird is still a bird, just a different type of bird and that’s okay because the colour gives the art the spark and differance that’s needed in the world.
