The Whirligig COL Assignment

The whirligig is about a 16-year-old boy that is named Brent. In the book he is going on a journey and making whirly gigs and finding his true self. His goal is for him to make four whirligigs on each corner of the United States of America. In this journey Brent has met many amazing people that had helped him find his true self. These characters made Brent become a truly amazing person and it is all because of Lea, the musician, and Emil.

Brent was greatly motivated by Lea. Even after Brent killed Lea, he was still motivated to do something for her. He had developed and discovered his genuine self even though Leas did not personally teach him anything.

The musician was a big inspiration, she told brent that “We all have made mistakes before in our lives and god knows that, but you have to get up and move on.” I really liked what she said that because it showed Brent that he did make a mistake and is showing how he feels and is moving on.

Brent was truly motivated by Emil. Not only did Emil motivate Brent but he also taught me something. He taught me to share happiness regardless of what other people believe.

Indigenous Exploration – Kamloops Residential School

Researching the Kamloops Residential School opened my eyes to the injustices done to the children and there families. Initially I didn’t know much about the residential school system. But after researching Kamloops Residential School my thinking changed. All Canadians should know about the harm done to not only the children but there families.

This topic should be taught to from K-12 and beyond. More importantly adults should be made aware harm done to families and children. I would suggest that filmmakers do several mini series that touch on this topic, following indigionous families through there struggles from day to day. I think this might have a greater impact then just a documentary or a book.

While doing this project i found it difficult to edit the voice recording because it was my first time using audacity. I also found it challenging when i was finding the best music for my podcast. It was hard to try to find which key words were the best to use when researching on Curio, Proquest and Flipster.

Digital Footprint

If I have a bad digital footprint such as me in a picture doing some bad things, that can ruin my chances on me getting a job that I want. People can also think that I’m a good person but after watching my digital footprint they might not think that way.

You can keep your social media accounts on private.

Have a strong password. If you are going be using social media have a complicated password so nobody can hack it.

You can just not use social media as whole but you do end up needing it in the future

Social media can help you because if someone want like to get a professional photographer they can look at your social media accounts and might see some examples of what I do.
