“Accidental or on Purpose” is a murder mystery podcast by Ayden Wagner and Chelsea Dugas. We researched the possible homicide case of Marilyn Rose Daniels, she is a MMIW from Manitoba, where 29% of MMIW cases occur. She was 17 years old and 3 months pregnant when she went boating with her boyfriend and never returned, her body was later pulled from the river she was boating in. There was an autopsy performed on her that only mentioned signs of drowning, but her brother claims to have seen a large bruise on her forehead when she was in her casket. Her brother also claims to have been told by a friend that Marilyn’s boyfriend had knocked her out using a paddle. We dived into the truth of the Daniels’ long-time belief and explored the possibilities of what happened to Marilyn Daniels. Using a blue snowball microphone and the program Audacity we recorded this podcast. We used the tools provided to make our podcast sound more professional by taking out the background noise from our recording. We also used high quality music from a royalty free music site, Pixabay, to make our podcast even more put together. In this project we learned, not only, how to edit and record a proper podcast with an engaging through line. But also, we learned how important it is to cover the stories of the MMIW because it’s an all-too-common occurrences that their stories get swept under the rug and forgotten, especially when the possibility of the boyfriend being the killer is always investigated many times in white cases.
