GOAL

WHAT IS ONE AREA (S) THAT YOU FEEL YOU DO WELL IN TERMS OF YOUR GOAL IN ENGLISH STUDIES 12?

I think one area that I feel I do very well in terms of accomplishing my goals is handing in assignments, projects and essays in time. I have never missed a deadline and for the most part, have been very organized. I Say this because in past years, I always get off to a good start (in handing items in in time) but towards to end I don’t do as good. I am better this year, but I need to make sure I continue staying on top of all my work.

STRETCH

IN WHAT AREA(S) DO YOU FEEL YOU NEED TO WORK ON IN TERMS OF MEETING YOUR GOAL IN ENGLISH STUDIES 12?

I think something I need to work in terms of meeting my goal is being more productive in class. While this semester I have gotten better, I think my goal needs to be to keep up with it to stay on top of everything. To do this, i should be more productive, and put away my phone and any other possible distractions to make sure I am as productive and getting as much work done as possible.

GOAL

HOW DO YOU FEEL YOU DID IN ENGLISH STUDIES 12? WHAT WERE YOU ABLE TO ACCOMPLISH THIS SEMESTER?

I feel that so far i am happy with how i have been doing in this class and i was able to accomplish a lot. I have gotten good grades, stayed on top of everything for the most part, and handed all my work in.

ARTIFACT (PROOF of your GOAL)

My goal this term in English Studies 12 is to improve my grade and keep it where it is now by staying organized and managing my time better. I have started using the notes app on my phone to keep tab of all my assignments, which will help me to stay on top of everything and not miss any assignments. I will also in the future start asking more questions to ensure that everything i do is correct and that i followed the right steps. Doing this will not only help me get a better grade in this class but help me be more confident and focused on other classes and life.

One of my biggest challenges with this project was trying to line all of my points and shapes together, and it got a little stressful because it took a lot time. But once I got it, it was just a matter of copying and pasting the equations, and tweaking it a little bit here and there. Knowing about domain and range really helped because within knowing about it, the lines would have gone on forever! Something I found interesting about the project was how one little small adjustment in the functions and equations can change the whole face. It shows how the small things are really important, and why there attention to detail for a project like this is very important. I did get a little help from my older brother with the functions and equations as it got a little complicated for me. But once he showed me the basics of it, it was pretty simple for me. one of my strategies was copying and pasting it then changing it a little bit. It saved a lot of time as I didn’t have to rewrite it every time! In general, this project I think helped me a lot in understanding range and domain.

SOME OF MY USED EQUATIONS

x^{2}+y^{2}=1

y_{b}\left(x\right)=-\left(.5\left(x+1.5\right)\right)^{2}+2.5

y_{t}\left(x\right)=2\left(-\left(.5\left(x+1.5\right)\right)^{2}\right)+2.61

y=\left(0.2\sin150x+2.5\right)

Personal responsibility

 Strengths

I think for that for personal responsibility I am good with standing organized with my binder and folders and making sure I don’t lose anything. Personally, i also think that i am honest with myself in terms of knowing that I am not the best at this subject and that if i am going to want a good grade in this class, I am going to have to do a little bit extra and work hard, rather than a class like physical education. In other words, I am good at fixing my mistakes and if I forget an assignment or project, I will do my best to get it into my teacher.

 Stretches

I think something that I struggle with is controlling my emotions. Not only in this specific class, but I think that sometimes when I am trying to figure out something whether it be a project or worksheet, I think I need to do better by taking a deep breath and telling myself that I will figure it out. This also ties in with self-advocating for myself. I think that this is the biggest thing for me because whenever i need help and am struggling with sometime, I don’t always ask the teacher for help. Going forward, I need to be better at asking questions when I don’t understand something.

 Future goals

My biggest goal by far is to finish my work as soon as possible (right when given the assignment). This tides into personal responsibility because if i am doing it right away, it allows me to make it the best version of my work because I can get others to read it and even proofread it multiple times. When doing work at the last minute, I am forced and rushed, therefore usually leading to not the best quality of work. Another thing I want to get better at is self-advocating. In order for me to get a good grade in this class, I think I need to ask more questions to be better the material. In my opinion, I think these are all very realistic and reachable goals and can easily be reached by the time the semester is over.

Ayden’s Science wonder inquiry project

Ayden’s Science Wonder Inquiry project

My big question – What do we have to do to be able to live on Mars?

Goal of my project – To understand and go into detail about what we need to do as a society to be able to live on Mars and make it a liveable planet. In other words, what needs to get done to be able to go live on this planet? What is stopping us?

Introduction – While I am sure I am not the only one wondering why we cannot live on other planets, I am sure you are wondering what is stopping us from doing so. If anything, Mars is the closest we can allow people to live there. Other planets such as Venus, Mercury and Jupiter are not very possible choices as they lack proper temperatures and you cannot even stand still on them. Mars is and will be the next planet to be liveable other than Earth, and this project will explain to you how it might be possible.

Ever since I was a little kid, I have always wondered what it would be like to see a small population of people live on Mars, rather than a couple million people living there. I also wondered why we all lived on Earth and nobody lived on Mars. While we don’t live there, I have always asked, “What is stopping us from living there?”

Research portion

Water – While it does seem a little bit complicated, it is one of the easiest problems to solve when it comes to adapting to live on Mars. There are multiple choices that we have when it comes to getting water. One of the options is the polar caps. They are a high-latitude region of a planet or moon that is covered in ice.  Extracting water from these caps would involve mining the ice and then melting it, which would then result in water. Another possible way to get water is minerals. Minerals on Mars contain water with a crystalline structure. When you heat these, they will explode, and water will be released. This procedure will include mining the Martian soil and processing it to extract the bound water.

Oxygen (why oxygen is stopping us) –  The oxygen that humans need to breathe is essentially nonexistent on Mars. Mars does not have the potential to naturally produce an oxygen-rich atmosphere, in contrast to Earth, which did so because of photosynthetic organisms. Less than 1% of Earth’s atmosphere pressure is on Mars. The atmospheric pressure is too low for human lungs, even if oxygen was magically added. Any breathable gas would rapidly evaporate into space at these low pressures unless it was held in a pressurized atmosphere. While they are ways to avoid it, this remains one of the biggest issues to be able to live on Mars. scientist today are still trying to figure out ways to work their way around it.

Oxygen ( why oxygen is NOT an issue) By creating oxygen from the CO2-rich atmosphere of the planet, the Mars Oxygen In-Situ Resource Utilization Experiment (MOXIE) could make it a possibility for humans to exist on Mars. Because of this technology, there is less require for moving oxygen from Earth to maintain life support systems and the generation of rocket fuel, making it possible for humans to live sustainably on Mars. While this is still a work in progress, I believe and hope that this will become a success in the near future.

Temperatures ( and how we will deal with it)  Future explorers and settlers are going to be able to live in a livable environment thanks to the implementation of modern insulation techniques, smart thermal control systems, reliable energy sources, and creative living designs. Like I just said in this previous sentence, it won’t be easy, but with maybe another 20 years, I won’t be surprised to see people living in mars. The greenhouse affect is also another way we can use to gain heat. In another article I found,  ( 4th link below) they talked about using current mars materials to help build igloos and even below the surface housing.

How we can protect ourselves from radiation  Humans on Mars have many choices for radiation protection. One way to protect against solar radiation is to build covered homes or cover them with Martian dirt. (Martian dirt is the dirt located on mars)  Radiation blockers may also be created by building cutting-edge materials like water or polymers rich in hydrogen. Another idea is to create electric or magnetic fields (big fields of land) that would look like Earth’s shielding magnetosphere. It is also very important to develop spaceships with improved shielding for travel and to provide worn radiation protection. In order to protect human health throughout extended missions and ultimate settlement, these coordinated strategies will be essential.

Conclusion In conclusion, there are many obstacles to overcome before it becomes possible to live on Mars, but scientific and technological developments are making it a possibility. We must create dependable processes for making oxygen, extracting water, and preserving a steady temperature if we are to live on Mars. While complex insulation and thermal control systems will assist manage high temperatures, technologies like MOXIE show promise in producing oxygen from Mars’ CO2-rich atmosphere. Human safety will be guaranteed by radiation protection techniques, such as underground housing and cutting-edge shielding materials. The dream of relocating to Mars grows more and more realistic as we overcome these challenges, maybe leading to the planet being humanity’s second home.

THE END

Rube gorlberg project

This project was completed alongside Kai.

Video of our project

Firstly, the dominios fall down due to the vibration from the phone buzzing. Next, after the dominos fall down, it pushes down the ball on the as it goes down onto the slope. After that, the ball will fall onto the pulley. Following that, the pulley will push down and go onto the lever. There are two magnets on the pulley and the lever. Therefore, it is connected to each other, making the lever work and let the ball go down. Finally, the second ball will go down the slope and fall into the simple step of going into the cup at the end.

The dominos represent kinetic energy

the phone uses electricial energy

the rubber balls uses eleastic energy

pulley use gravitational energy

there are two mangets under the pulley and the lever, therefore using magnetic energy

potential energy uses as and represents as pulley

phones uses sound energy as well

machines are lever, pulley and slope

Core compenticies ( i chose the thinking competency)

This project demonstrates our communication because since it is a group project, we had to communicate with each other lots. From texting and calling each other lots to figure out what we each need to do so that the work is split evenly, to even coming over to each other’s house and making sure we get everything right in order. Especially in a project where it is quite complicated in terms of what we are doing, i think communication was a very key and important part for this project. When building this rube Goldberg project, my partner had to talk to each other lots to make sure everything was in order, from the dominios going down, to making sure the pulley was right. Another way where communication was important was when we were building and designing the rube golberg. We had to make sure we agreed on everything before moving on and to avoid arguing about what goes into the project, we both had equal say on everything.

science self assignments and goal settings

i think that i did a fairly good job with the introduction in science this semester because I have was feeling very excited and motivated about the new classes. For the few weeks, i was happy and willing to learn and therefore it reflected on my grade. At the start of the semester, my science 10 grade was high. But i think ever since a few weeks ago (a month ago) i have gotten a little bit distracted with things such as sports and family events therefore making me lower my grade in science. This has also resulted in me getting a little bit behind in the current units. I understood the introduction well and was confident in biology. But ever since chemistry started, i have been getting a bit confused by the work and quizzes we are given. As i said above, i think as long as i focus and am motivated for the class, i think i can get at least an average grade in the class.

I chose personal responsibility

This is one of the categories that I excel in the most. I am never late for class, come to class ready to learn with the appropriate supplies and am respectful to my teachers and my peers. I also have never cheated on any tests or assignments, therefore being responsible myself my work. It also shows that i am honest. However, I do struggle with some parts of personal responsibilities. I struggle with getting things in before the due dates, managing my time properly and being efficient with my time. These are all things that i currently struggle with, but also things that i believe with a little bit of challenging work and determination, I can fix these issues and make sure that i am the best possible student i can be.

My #1 goal is to be more responsible with my work and mostly, getting work and assignments in on time. My goal is also to stop procrastinating and get stuff done. My plan to do this is an extensive list. My first one is to be able to have a quiet room and good environment so i can feel ready to learn or do work. My second thing is putting my phone (and other distractions) in a completely different room so I cannot have any distractions and force myself to focus. My other steps include getting work done the day before, asking for help right away and not waiting and making sure during group projects, I am picking the right members that will encourage and motivate me to do my work. If i can do all of this, it will help with my personal responsibility and make myself accountable for getting all my work done.

Week 17 – Math 10

This week in math we learned how to solve word problems. the first thing that you gotta do is find the variables which will represent the values that we don’t know. After that, you have to form a system of equations that involve the variables. next, you solve the system. Finally, you can answer the problem. Even if you are super confident that you are right, always make sure you check your solution and plug in into the original solution. When there are word problems that introduce the distance, speed, or time of something, you can use the formula speed multiplied by time equals distance. (TxS=D) It is a triangle that will have Distance on the top, speed on the left and time on the right.

Week 11 – Math 10

This week in math, my class learned how to find the x-intercept and y-intercept of equations. It is a lot simpler than you would think, as all you need to do is when you want to find the x-intercept of an equation, you need to make the y (doesn’t matter where it is) zero. After that, you need to pull all the variables and the numbers on separate sides. As an example, if you want to find the y-intercept of y = 4x + 7, make 4 a zero, which will then give you an answer of -7/4. I got this because when I changed the x to a 0, I just needed to do -7 and 4, and since you can’t divide it, you would just put the fraction there. If you want to find the X intercept, it is the same thing, except you change Y to a zero. Another thing that I found out during this week was that to find out the slope of an equation, it will always be the number before the x and the intercept (y-intercept) will be the last number or the one without a coefficient.

Math 10 – Week 16

1.  Graphing.

Before you even start graphing it, you need to make sure you have proper graph paper. The first step is to graph the first equation, typically on the left-hand side. The second step will be to graph the second equation, in the same area that you graphed your first one. The next is to figure out whether the lines are parallel, intersect or are on the same line. The last step to do is the check your solution. plug the second half into the first half of the question, and if there aren’t any issues, then you get the right answer. IF the lines insercept, make sure you not where that took place.

2. Substitution method

  1. Solve one of the equations for either variable. Step two is to Substitute the expression from Step 1 into the other equation. The third step, the easiest, in my opinion, is the solve the resulting equation. Lastly,  substitute the solution in Step 3 into one of the original equations to find the other variable.

3. Elimination method

Firstly, you need to turn the 2 equations into standard form. This is similar to simplifying, except, you are making the number longer and easier to plug into other numbers. Then, you need to choose one coefficient to change to make it the opposite. After this, you need to eliminate everything else and that will give you your answer.

Week 15 – Math 10 Equations and wonky initials

I found that doing the equations, personally, was a little bit challenging because they were hard to understand. To go more in-depth, the hardest part for me for finding the y intercept or in some cases even the x intercept. After a little bit of help from my parents, I learned to find the y-intercept you need to make x zero and usually divide the two remaining numbers. Something I found super easy was finding the slope from line to line in my equations. I feel that this was the easiest part of the whole project because we spent a lot of time working on it in class. I think that doing this project is good because it teaches us that not only is math a big part of our everyday life but is seen every day in our very own names. Lastly, to write my equations, i first wrote the y=, followed by the slope and intercept. In other words, i used y=mx+b to my advantage. I then had to use the slope for y and domain for x to shorten the line and make it fit perfectly into my shape or line.
