In our grammar video, we talked about run-on sentences. We explained the definition of what a run-on sentence was and provided some examples. A run-on sentence is when a couple of complete sentences are put together without any proper punctuation or conjunctions. An example of these punctuations and conjunctions would be “periods”, “semicolons” and “commas”. Here is an example of a run on sentence.

Example: I get bubble tea with my friends every once in a while we always pick delicious flavours.

In our video, we also explained what a proper sentence would be. Like how to write proper paragraphs that would not include run on sentences. We explained the rules you need when writing a proper sentence. For example, you should not forget to use periods, commas and semicolons in your sentences. It would also be good if you made your sentences a good length. Meaning, not too short and not too long.

Using periods in a proper sentence would be to finish the sentence where it is. Whoever is reading the sentence would not be able to tell when the sentence is done if there is no period at the end. Commas in a sentence are great for when you want to take a pause in your writing before continuing to the next part. Using a semicolon is to replace a period and a comma. A semicolon is for when two sentences are related but it would be too long to add another comma. But also, it would replace the period so that you can finish the sentence without completely ending it.
