Week 4 – Math 10

What did I learn this week?

This week, I learned how to do Trigonometry. We learned how to find the angles of triangles using “SOH CAH TOA”. For example SOH stands for Sin = O/H, CAH stands for Cos = A/H, and TOA stands for Tan = O/A. When finding the angles in triangles we will first label the sides with the Hypotenuse, Opposite, and Adjacent to make things easier. For example, the hypotenuse is always across from the 90º and is the longest side. The opposite is across from the given angle, and the adjacent is next to the given angle, and it is also the remaining side left.

Week 3 – Math 10

What did I learn this week?

This week, I learned how to understand and use Scientific Notation. Scientific Notation is a way of expressing numbers that are too large or too small to be written in a form of decimal.

For example, if the number is really long, you can make it shorter by using scientific notation. If the number is 240 000 000, we will count all the zero’s including the number after the very first number and we will turn that amount into an exponent on top of the 10. The answer would be 2.4 x 108.

We also learned how to turn scientific notation into standard form. For example, when it is scientific notation, we will look at the exponent number that is on top of the 10 then turn it into zero’s. If the number is  2.4 x 1012  we will take the amount of exponents and turn them into zero’s. Then the 2.4 will turn into 2,4 and then we add all the zero’s. The answer would be 2,4 00, 000, 000, 000.

Week 2 – Math 10

What did you learn this week?

One thing I learned this week was Prime Factors. For the prime factors, I learned how to find prime factors using factor trees. For example, to find the prime factors in 180, I would have to find the two numbers that multiply by each other to make 180. Then the numbers would get smaller and smaller until I am at the last prime number. Then I can see all the prime factors. For example, When I am at the last prime factor, I will circle all the prime numbers and write them down as multiplication.

Week 1 – Math 10

How do you use math in your life?

I think that math can be really helpful in my everyday life. One way I use math in my life is when I am buying something. For example, if I am paying for something with cash, then I have to count. I would count the amount of money I need using math. When I am giving cash to the cashier, I need to know how much to give. That’s why math is important for my daily life.
