In this image, I see lots of people looking at the camera for a photo. It looks like they are taking pictures at a residential school. For example, they are all sitting and looking up at the picture. I notice that there are some children in the front row and adults in the back. The people are split up into sections by how they are dressed. The people that are wearing colourful clothing, are on the right side. While the people wearing no interesting colours are on the left side. This image makes me feel confused. At first when I see the image, it looks like there are a lot of emotions, so it is confusing. But when I stare at it for longer, I feel a bit sad and notice the details. I start to think of the situations in the photo. For example, I started to notice the way that their facial expressions are. I also noticed the difference in their body language. For example, the people on the right have nice poses and some of their heads are tilted in a fun way. But the people on the left are just sitting down straight and looking up at the camera. I think the image is trying to show what residential schools did to them. It looks like a lot is happening. For example, the people all the way to the left have no colour on their face. But towards the middle I see that their faces have some colour. I think that what is happening is that the journey starts from the left, going to the right side. For example, the people were in residential schools and as they slowly got older, they started to get their culture back. Which is why towards the middle, people’s faces are not gray. It could also be from the opposite way. For example, it could be the indigenous people enjoying their culture, but slowly lose it in the residential school. So that is why I think that the topic is about indigenous people and their “journey” growing up, or their journey going through residential school. The image also looks like the people are enjoying their time and some others people that are not happy. I think the effect that the colours have on the viewer is that the more colourful side is supposed to be the happy and fun side, but the gray and plain side is supposed to be the sad, and boring side. For the angle, we are looking from above. The camera is facing downwards and all the people in the picture are looking up towards the camera. I think that the camera angle affects how we see the situation. For example, the camera angle shows all the people and how they look. But if the camera angle was lower, you would not be able to see all the people and their emotions. The message of respect means to treat everyone equally. For example, if there is someone that looks different, you should still treat them with respect. Everyone should be treated equally, no matter who they are. Even If you do not like their race. Respect is to be kind, and to not shame people. For example, if there is someone you do not like, you should not go out of your way to be rude to them. You could simply walk away or ignore that person so that you do not cause any problems. By having respect, it will build trust, and safety.
