Syllabus 3D Art- Sculpture

What is 3D Art?

3D Art is a studio-based course, where students will be learning both the theoretical and practical aspects of creating sculpture.  There will also be exploration in the history, cultural significance, and environmental impacts of creating art. This course will focus on 3 aspects of creating art: Purpose, Process and Product.

You will need:

  • A device that you can work on an Edublog page for this course to keep weekly posts and photo documentation.
  • An understanding that you might get messy in the studio/ backup clothing/ appropriate studio wear.
  • An understanding that we use what we can in the studio, but if you want specialty supplies, you will be expected to purchase them yourself.
  • An understanding that you are free to use supplies from the studio, only taking what you need, always conscious of the environment, the needs of other students, and the studio budget.
  • Advocate for your learning needs and personal styles.
  • An understanding that you will not be dismissed from the class unless the studio is clean, and in proper order.
  • An understanding that learning comes from the process of making. Final products may not look the way you expect.
  • An open mind to new processes and information.
  • To help others. This classroom is a community.
  • To make connections. To collaborate.
  • To speak and act in a way that is respectful to all races, religions, genders, and sexual orientations, as this is a safe space and anything less will not be tolerated.

Electronics Policy:

Students will be expected to bring their devices (to complete Edublogs, Teams assignments, and photo documentation) to class daily.

A new phone policy is in effect, where phones and earbuds/headphones should be out of sight, and phones on silent. On occasion, students will be allowed to listen to their own music while working on projects, but it is expected that phones are NOT a distraction. No Streaming video (unless tutorial videos) as it puts too much strain on bandwidth.

If phones or devices are found to be more of a distraction, than a tool for work, the teacher has the right to remove the device from the student until the end of class. If problems persist the entire class will have their device privileges removed.

 

How will I be Graded?

All projects will be graded on a combination of Personal Responsibility, Engagement, Evidence of Learning, and Collaboration and Teamwork. Assessment of learning will be a combination of teacher, self, and peer assessments. There will be 4 skill building assignments worth 5 points each, and 4 portfolio items worth 20 points each.  This will total 100 points over the course. Students have the opportunity to earn bonus points.
