communication core compotency reflection

I chose communication since i had the most connections to it in science specifficly. Talking is definetly something i enjoy doing, but when its about school work its not my favourite. Despite that fact i think communicating is inportant, you have to communicate to group memebers about projects, you have to ask quiestions to your teacher, you even have to sometimes ask classmates questions as well, point is communicating is a huge part of most peoples daily lives, of course theres always the odd one out. A time where i used communication to the fullest was during our feild studies. It was my and my groupmates responsobility to talk and work together which obisously involves communicating. We talked about the bugs and asked each other quiestions. Another time i communicated during science where all the time i asked quiestions to a classmate or even a teacher. Overall communicating is a large part of school, theres alot of people who dont enjoy speaking but pick up on things, for me i need someone to explain things until i fully understand, at least most the time… At the end of the day i communicated during science in many ocasions.

field studies

Our objective when exploring the rivers during our field studies was to test the water, more specially to test the water to see if it is safe to swim in. We also wanted to see what kinds of bugs lived in each water which would later give us the answer, is the water quality safe enough to swim in? Each different bug lives in individual water quality so discovering and detecting which bugs lived in which water means we could later then vary between a ruff response of whether the water quality was good enough.

We where able to find the bugs by moving into the river water and rubbing rocks with a brush into a net under the water. The current of the water would push whatever bugs where on the rocks into the net, we would then take the net and transfer the bugs from the net into a bowl of river water. To ensure nobodies clothes would get wet we wore waiters when in the water. The waiters where interesting since I’ve never worn them before. When I put them on it felt like a big suit and once I was in the water my legs felt cold, but overall it was fun.

The first test sight we went to was Coquitlam river. The water was nice however it was freezing cold, just having my hand under the water made it numb. The water wasn’t deep where I was staying it was quit shallow, all though the water had an extreme current moving down and was pulling everyone but luckily nobody called pulled away.

while at the Coquitlam river we found a few insects in the water.

The most common bug found where mayflies, I was shocked to learn there where many types of mayflies. The ones I found where the mayflies with three tails, and the mayflies with two tails. I found two of each along with a dead mayflies skin, it was a cloudy white transparent colour. Mayflies where not the only bugs I was able to find, I would later find a bug very similar to the mayflies known as the stonefly. There very similar in shape and size and they all just about have the same amount of legs, however I was able to differentiate between the two since the specific species of stonefly I came across had a thicker back body and thiner tails then the mayflies I found, without the chart I would not be able to tell the difference between a mayfly and stonefly.

Over all it all came down to one thing, water quality. after testing the water we where able to come to a ruff water quality estimate of [ 85.06 ] in other words the water is good quality and safe to swim in. Since I have swam in that river water before I was not shocked or surprised to find out the water quality is good and safe, I was happy with the results and its good to know that a local river near my house is save for swimming.

Oxbow pond sight

The Oxbow pond sight was nothing like the poco river, it looked abandoned and untouched and reminded me of that one episode of the Simpsons where there was a contaminated lake with fish with five eye balls and scary snakes. The air smelt bad once the people with waiters stepped on the bottom of the pond. The water was brown and cloudy, it had bubbles forming on the sides of the pond and has gross brown build up all around the sides. In conclusion I would never swim in there.     Image.jpeg   Image.jpeg Image.jpeg

Unlike the river this pond had bugs twice the size of the ones from the river, it even had snails!!!

the snails actual name is a gilled snail but could possibly be a pouch snail or pond snail. Someone also found a very big bug, I was also not able to find  a bug that looked exactly like the one we found but it could be a lot of things. It could be a caddisfly larva or a damselfly larva which are both predators

This time in order to find the bugs we did not rub rocks into a net, instead we collected the brown build up from the sides of the pond and transferred it into a bowl of pond water. This pond had no current or movement and from what I saw it was deeper then the river.

Once again it come down to one thing in the end, the quality of the water. The ruff conclusion of the quality of the water was [69.41] In other words the quality was not the best but not the worst, it was average. I was shocked to find out the quality of the water wasn’t all that bad, I seriously believed the water was poisoned.

Coquitlam river compared to oxbow pond

At the end of the day the best water quality was the river, no shock there. All though the river might be the best for swimming I think the pond was more interesting for finding bugs since the water looks like it could mutate insects, I mean seriously I’m convinced they based that Simpsons episode off of oxbow pond. The river water was fresh and clean and the oxbow pond looked muddy and even smelt bad, if that’s not a red flag not to go in that water I don’t know what is.Image.jpeg     Image.jpeg

Exploring outside and finding insects and learning about them was pretty fun, I got the opportunity to do something I’m not used to and go out of my comfort zone by going into the water. I think it was fun and got the class to know each other a bit better and connect with one another. It was defiantly a fun experiment and I had lots of fun doing it.

cc reflection

Describe how the artifact you selected shows your strengths & growth in specific core competencies. The prompt questions on the left – or other self-assessment activities you may have done – may guide your reflection process.

Part of personal awareness and responsibility comes along with communication. Being aware and responsible also means using communication to talk to people about things you know need to be said or things you need help with. Part of being responsible is making sure you do the right thing so communicating to help others or yourself is a huge part of personal awareness and responsibility. Strengths and growth is  a big part personal awareness and responsibility its important to know your strengths and weaknesses and to work on your weaknesses to make them your strengthsHaving awareness to know what your doing wrong is a healthy habit everyone should have as it helps you grow and pushes you out of your comfort zone to do better in every way possible. One of my learning goals was to do better using words to describe things instead of using the same words repeatedly and I think I have done a decent job displaying that with my assiments. Sometimes when im not feeling great about my goals I set mini goals for myself to reach my goals like doing ten pushups every morning to then reach twenty a morning.

Inclusivity was the opposite of what was shown in the birds on a wire picture here is why. In this picture we see one bird on the right and many crows on the left. The group of crows are holding up signs telling the blue bird he is not welcomed and to go back to where he is from. The bird on the right looks different and to the other birds different doesn’t mean equal there for inclusivity doesn’t exist in this photo. It’s very clear the crows are discriminating against the bird with colour since there teaming up and holding signs telling him he’s not welcome. This could easily represent racism in many different forms. The crows on the left are holding up signs telling the bird with colour he is not welcome and to leave which is the absolute opposite of inclusivity. In this photo is very much demonstrates to opposite of inclusivity by outing the bird that stands out more than the rest I feel this represents racism at its finest. It Could also represent bullying, but the fact of the picture is that the blue bird is different than the rest and to everyone else that means there not welcome. The shading in the back of the blue bird on the right could symbolize hiding from the rest in fear to stand out but if you’re looking at it from a racism perspective the bird could be hiding in fear of their life. In my eyes this photo represents racism and the absolute opposite of inclusivity.

Monologue video

Monologue script Wait I hand in a journal written by a serial killer to the police and all they have to say is there’s nothing we can really do this is unbelievable think Duncan think there’s got to be something we can do we may be an ordinary high school student but there is innocent people on the line.We cant just ignore it like the selfish police officer we have to do something I knew this would happen I knew handing in a journal I found in the subway lost and found written by a physco ready to stalk his next victim was a bad idea they must think I’m joking what can I do how can I help and how can the police not dam it I have to do something about this if the police cant help I guess I will just have to catch this physco by myself but how the journal doesn’t have any names or anything its just pages on pages of some guy talking about stalking people and how fun it is to kill poor animals this can not go unseen look at that police officer just sitting there does he really not understand that there’s people at risk here the man who wrote these pages is evil and dangerous and I have to catch him before the writing on these pages becomes reality.

reflection

I chose this scene not for the charector but for the scene. You could feel the resentment and anger threw the writing I the book. He was stuck on what to do after finding a killers diary but now that the most obvious option to give it to the police was gone he was stuck with only two options either risk his life trying to save these girls and possibly get accused  of being the owner of the book. Or he could simply forget about it and walk away but the only problems that he would most likely never forget his scary vivid dreams of him letting a girl drown would now be replaced with the thought of him letting innocent girls get stalked and killed. Duncan took his friends advice and now he was left with two options that were both terrible. I made sure to express his anger when writing my monolog. When it came to creating the charter I made sure to give him a black jacket because he mentioned he took one from the lost and found h worked at. I also gave him brown hair because I felt it fit him.
