My podcast was about Qu’Appelle Indian residential school. We choose to talk about this school we wanted to understand and learn about the past of this specific school, and the kids experiences there. We researched this topic by googling information on survivors accounts on what happened and different articles we could find on the school. The making on the podcast was pretty straight forward and for the most part went well, Uploading the file was probably the hardest part. Talking about this tragedy was difficult because it was hard to imagine what these kids went through and talking about it made it very real.
What are some aspects you value about this culture, as well as your own?
The first nation people had to overcome having their children ripped away from them and their culture ripped away from them, and all these tragedy’s in the after math. Their culture survived because they never forgot what was done. They listened to the survivor’s and the victims and kept seeking justice for what was done to them. It took a long time but they never stopped trying and because of that they are getting the acknowledgement they deserve. I can relate it my my culture because we too honour the lost and talk about them to honour and remember them.
