wind turbines – my information
- How they work the wind turns two or three propeller-like blades around a rotor which is connected to the main shaft, which spins a generator to create electricity.
The turbines need a sustained wind speed of 9 mph to function however turbines do not operate at wind speeds above about 55 mph because they may be damaged by the high winds. Wind turbine blades do kill birds but the amount of deaths is extremely low espescially when compared to nuclear and fossil fuel plants which kill 2118 birds for every 1 bird killed by a wind turbine. 
Sound levels from turbines are typically no more than about 55 decibels. To put that in perspective a vacuum cleaner is 80 decibels and a blender is 90. It is a clean energy source which means that it doesn’t pollute the air or use any destructive chemicals. they are also a renewable source of energy.

2. Dear Mr. Trudeau, I have been doing some research on wind turbines and decided I would like to share my findings with you to help you decide if these are a viable option for Canada. What I found was a lot of the common complaints against wind turbines are relevant but exaggerated for example one of the big complaints is that they are killing birds and well this is true they are not the bird killing machines they are made out to be in fact more birds are killed by nuclear and fossil fuel plants then by wind turbines. Another one of the big complaints is that they are very noisy but in fact there only 55 decibels loud which means a blender is louder than one of these turbines. Now for some background information on how these turbines work. Now there is something to consider about these turbines they need a sustained wind speed of 9 mph to function however turbines do not operate at wind speeds above about 55 mph because they may be damaged by the high winds. nonetheless, it is a clean energy source which means that it doesn’t pollute the air or use any destructive chemicals. - What questions did you need to research in order to research your topic? The questions I researched were how does it work?, Does it kill birds?, Are they noisy?, If there’s no wind does that mean no power?, what are some advantages to wind power and what are some disadvantages to wind power.
- What new or familiar digital tools did you try to use as you worked through this project. some tools I used were google and pexels.
- What was the process you used to investigate this topic? the process i used to investigate this topic was I came up with my list of questions and i researched them.
- How did you verify and cite the information you found? I checked multiple sources and if they were saying simikar things i new it was probably true. to cite the information i put a list of sources.
- How did the process of completing this challenge go? what could you have done better? the process if compleating this challenge went well. something i could have done better is maybe tried something like gale.
