P.E. 9 Substance Abuse Role Play

  1. The influence in the skit is that someone wants the others to come to a party and drink, while someone wants to go and not even think about it, someone else wants to delay him and then figure out what to say later, and the last person in the group wants to negotiate with guy against going to the party and to go to his house instead.
  • Hey do you guys want to get some drinks at a party?
  • No thanks dude that’s not my thing.
  • Come on its gonna be fun.
  • No thanks dude, i’m out. I know how bad it can get.
  • What about you?
  • No thanks its really late.
  • You?
  • Hey why don’t we go to my house and on the way we can get some chips and juice and when we get to my house we can watch a movie instead?

3. Although in the video someone forgot his lines, the refusing person was said no, and that it wasn’t his type of thing, then the party guy says it’ll be very fun, to which the person says no, i know how out of hand it can get, sorry. The delay person said that it was getting too late, and the final person says that they should go to his house to watch a movie and drink juice and eat chips. The skills used are problem solving, because each person had to find out a way to refuse without upsetting their friend, and also actually refuse. Also being assertive and not engaging in a hostile manner.

4. The skills used would make a person more resilient because it would help them solve many issues, maybe someones mad, you can problem solve and be assertive to convince him to not be mad and do so nicely instead of just yelling back and making him more angry. Also peer pressure. Maybe a group pressures you to take some weed or something. You could figure out a way to delay them and maybe negotiate something instead of just saying no or to go away or something.
