Trigonometry Ratios
In week 4 we started trigonometry. This week we learned about ratios. Ratios are a fundamental part of evaluating a triangle. It uses the sides and lengths to show a ratio between them and to figure out the type of equation you need to solve the problem.
To start, you use something called SOH CAH TOA. SOHCAHTOA, is an acronym that will help you to determine, sine, claims, and tangent ratios, from an angle in a right triangle.
SOH: sine, which is opposite over hypotenuse.
CAH: cosine, which is adjacent over hypotenuse.
TOA: tangent, which is opposite over adjacent.
Example:
Vocabulary:
Right triangle: a triangle with a right angle
Right angle: 90 degrees
Ratio: comparison between numbers
Hypotenuse: side that is across from right angle
Opposite: side that is across from theta
Adjacent: side that is beside theta/left over
Theta: Greek letter in alphabet
