Week 1 – Math 10 – Factor Trees

Prime Factorization

This week we learned about prime factorization. A strategy to figure out a numbers prime factors is by using something called a “factor tree”.

A factor tree begins with one number and then divides it by a smaller one, using normally a low prime number such as 2 or 3.

Vocabulary:

factor: a number you can multiply with another number with a result of a product

prime: a number that has only two factors. Itself, and 1
