• Scientific notation is an easy was to describe a long number with serval 0’s.
  • To turn a LARGE number into a scientific notation, you take the first natural digit and move the rest of the natural digits after a decimal point.
  • Then you count all the zeros and all the numbers after the decimal, you then make 10 to the power of whatever number you counted, and you have your scientific notation.  (357000 -> 3.57 x 105)
  • To turn a SMALL number into a scientific notation, once again, you take the first natural digit and make all the next digits after a decimal point.
  • Then you make 10 to the power of however many zeros there are, including the one before the decimal but you make it a negative exponent. (0.0000048 -> 4.8 x 10-6)
