the art piece I made “waking sea” is revamped from a book to advocating and speaking out to protect our seas and sea creatures and they are important factors in our everyday lives. I incorporated my lino print from my other project symbolizing how the book was about protecting as that is why Amphrotrte is known as a great goddess. I also created my own blackout poem expressing how we should stop taking the ocean for granted because if we do not wake up and realize the harm we are creating it will be too late and we will be the ones suffering. Life below water and protecting the rights and safety of the ocean sits very heavy on my art because I can not wrap my head around why humans destroy such beautiful things, we need to learn how to give instead of just taking. I painted beautiful coral reefs with fish to remind viewers of how the ocean is filled with endless beauty and life. just by throwing away one piece of garbage into the ocean, you as an individual are ruining another life’s home. for this project, I used a variety of media including acrylic paints, gems, stones, lino print art, 3d objects, etc. I wanted to create a book where you could feel the texture and interact with it so that it was amusing and educational at the same time. I made sure to include a variety of spread pages as this was one of the requirements for the assignment. all in all, I believe this project was very beneficial to me because I had to research endangered sea creatures and overall sea life. just reading such horrible things and how the ocean is dying was super heartful to me. I hope that viewers reading g my book will be able to enjoy the beauty of the sea and learn more about the harm w are creating.
