Week 2, Thursday, February 9th, Altered book project
To start off this week off I have started my altered book project. I have created my purpose and completed my sketchbook work for this project. I have decided to do the life below water theme for my book. I have already selected a book for this project, I chose to do a smaller book so that I can focus on making more work more detailed rather than focusing on the quantity of pages. I have taken out a quarter of my book and glued all of my pages together. all of my preparation is done and today I plan to work on cutting out my front cover and making a whole so i can add crystals to it.
Week 3, Thursday, February 16th, Altered book
This week was a very productive week as I finished cutting out the front cover of my book. I was able to complete even more than I planned too and I finished painting the outside of my book and I started to work on a spread page.
Week 4, Friday, February 23rd, Altered book page
(Spread page #1, collage/photo montage using point of view as I made the ocean out of magazine papers, viewers can see it differently, techniques i used are cut outs, and small an large papers to create depth)
This week I am almost finished a spread page in my altered book. I am creating a photo montage of the ocean which is made using intricate/tiny pieces of paper from magazines. This week we were given a lesson of how to transfer ink onto clear tape. I found this lesson to be extremely helpful to me in a creative aspect as i will be using this technique in the process of my altered book.
Week 5, Thursday, March 2nd, Altered book montage page
(Spread page #1, collage/photo montage using point of view as I made the ocean out of magazine papers, viewers can see it differently, techniques i used are cut outs, and small an large papers to create depth)
This week I am finally complete my photo montage page. It took me a while to complete as I used very intricate pieces of ripped magazine paper. as I got to the end of the montage I made the pieces a bit bigger so that my process would be shortened. I also believe it adds great depth to the photo montage, it is portraying whatever is close up is easier to see than things that are far away.
Week 6, Thursday, March 30th, Altered book Blackout poem
(Spread page #2, blackout art using fragmentation of textured paper to create blackout poem, techniques: textured paper, hidden messages, and cut outs )
I am finally back after having Covid before spring break! This week I knew I had to be ready to work really hard to catch up to all the time I lost before spring break. I am working on my second spread page of my altered book and I am creating a blackout poem out of the words I am given in my book. I am adding an additional two words of my own to make the whole poem make more sense. This poem is about how we neglect the world/ocean and ow we as people should be more environmentally friendly, but it can be anything that people interpret it to be. I want to use some sort of texture to create depth to the page, I would also like to use all shades of blue to create the image of the ocean. within each bubble in which I have selected a word for my blackout poem I will create a circle around it to act like an air bubble under the sea.
Week 7, Thursday, April 6th, Altered book Blackout poem
(Spread page #2, blackout art using fragmentation of textured paper to create blackout poem, techniques: textured paper, hidden messages, and cut outs )
This week I felt super productive. I was able to get most of the blackout poem in my altered book done, and I started my inquiry project. for my blackout poem I noticed the textured paper was hiding my text and it was kind of hard to read so i thought to add text both big, small, and medium from magazines that match up with the text in the book to emphasize what the poem says. I have the idea to create bubbles around the text to make it easer to see, and waves of sequence to connect with the following sentences so it would be easier to read.
