week 1/2
Going into the first and second week of the dragon chimera project was pretty smooth. I was able to sketch the dragon I wanted to create and started creating the head of my dragon with news paper and paper Mache slip. I realized that some of the materials in the classroom were not exactly what I was looking for so took it into consideration to go out and purchased then for this project because of the image I have set for this artwork. I am currently completes the head and teeth of my dragon and will be completing the eyes in my upcoming week. This project unfortunately had to be paused due to spring break, and finishing a priory art project (river of reconciliation project). going into the following week my goal is to be completed the eyes, neck, and some features of the face.
week 3/4
Going into the third and fourth week of the dragon chimera project I faced some challenges but all together it was pretty good. I was able to gather most of all the material I needed in order to complete the look of this dragon. These past weeks i was able to complete my eyes and spray paint my roses for the crown of my dragon, the roses still are not as shinny as I would like them to be so I am in the process of figuring out what i should do. I am completely finished my dragons teeth, the teeth are a nice shimmery gold, there were some complications as I had lost my dragon teeth for a little bit, but once I found them I continued working. the last thing I did during these weeks was adding white fabric to the paper Mache head of my dragon, this will later be colored of the inside of the mouth. So far this week has been alright I am slowly starting to see my dragon come to life, it doesn’t look exactly how I imaged it to but I am trusting the process. my goal for next week is to be completed building on my head, adding the eyes, inserting the teeth, and starting on the neck.
week 5/6
going into the fifth and sixth week of the dragon chimera project I faced many challenges, this week was probably one of the most stressful weeks because as I added to my dragon I wasn’t pleased with my work. In the beginning of these weeks I was great, I had finished the textured beading around the eyes and parts of the face of my dragon, and had also spiced up the horns to make them look more realistic because I wasn’t happy with the horns from the previous week it just didn’t feel like dragon horns. After doing these things I was feeling pretty satisfied with how everything was looking so I decided to add more fuzzy fabric onto the bottom of my dragon which was a complete mistake, it had totally taken away from the dragon and everything was falling apart. During this I was kind of panicked but re-grouped and got some help to fix my mistake. I ended up taking off the unwanted fabric as well as the teeth because I felt that it wasn’t dragon enough, and wanted then to be longer. I ended the week off feeling more relived now that I have a new idea set and the dragon was looking better than it had. Going into next week I am going to add hand designed textured fabric to the stomach of the dragon to make it look like scaled, afterword’s I am going to paint it gold. my lesson from this week is to not crowd all of my ideas and do them right away, I believe I just got to carried away and that’s why I am where I am now. My goal for next week is to hopefully be almost done my dragon.
