Local Legends Project

Local Legend, “Days and Nights” by Kittitas cultural group, Summary:

Long before human existence, the animal kingdom agreed to hold an election to decide the length of days and nights, with Frog representing the animals in favour of short days and nights, and Bear representing the opposite.

Why oral storytelling is still important in all cultures:

In addition to entertainment, oral storytelling is significant as it creates an opportunity to connect with and learn from others. Often, these stories grant the younger generation wisdom from the elders about life, preserving the experiences of the previous generations. Moreover, oral stories can generate skills deficient in written stories, such as gestures and voice acting. In Indigenous culture, the settings of the oral stories are utilized to teach and learn about their origins, initiating a deeper connection to the surrounding environments.
