Digital Footprint

 1) How might your digital footprint affect your future opportunities? Give at least two examples.

i) One example of how your digital footprint can affect your future opportunities is getting into a University/College that you want to get into. Let’s say maybe you want to go to an Ivy League school, and you got a very good average percentage that is qualified for that school. The school you want to attend looks at your school profile and sees all your good grades, but when they search you up and look at your digital footprint of you at the club drinking and smoking on Instagram, your chances of you getting into that school is lowered down a lot.

ii) Another example of how your digital footprint can affect your future opportunities is when you find a job. When you apply for a job in the future, they will most likely google search you up. If they see anything that is negative about you, they will not hire you. But if you have a good digital footprint, for example, you volunteering at a nursery home, or you helping out the community by picking up local garbage,  then you will be on their good side and they will hire you.

2) Describe at least three strategies that you can use to keep your digital footprint appropriate and safe.

i) Don’t post anything you wouldn’t show to your grandmother on an online platform. Even if you delete it, someone will always find it and It’s pretty embarrassing.

ii) Only leave positive posts of you online to show that you are a good student.

iii) If you are hesitant at posting it, it’s probably not a very good idea to.

iv) Turn off your location services when you feel you need to.

v) Don’t post/send anything that is too personal.

vi) Be cautious of the websites you g0 on.

3) What information did you learn that you would pass on to other students? How would you go about telling them?

I learned that our digital footprint is very important. It can damage you and your future career if you don’t keep an eye on it. I learned that you shouldn’t post personal things online that you wouldn’t want to show people of the outside world. Everyones’s digital footprint will affect them, whether in a good or bad way. It’s just up to you to be responsible with it or not.
