Core Competency Reflection Precalculus 11
Core competency:
The core competency I feel has developed the most in Precalculus 11 is Critical and Reflective Thinking. In this class, I often had to look at problems carefully, pick the best way to solve them, and check if my answers made sense. It wasn’t just about memorizing formulas eI had to understand how and why each method worked. This helped me get better at breaking problems into smaller parts and solving them step by step.’
Examples:
Solving Word Problems
In this class, we worked on word problems that needed multiple steps. At first, I struggled to decide which equations to use, but by thinking about the information given, I learned a way that i dont forget even though sometimes i do have mistakes still.
Example of my work:
Here is a photo of my work solving a word problem:
This shows how I labeled the important parts of the problem, set up equations, and checked my answer to make sure it made sense.
Reflecting on Mistakes
Whenever I got a practice question wrong, instead of just moving on, I asked myself:
- Did I understand the question correctly?
- rDid I use the right formula?
- What did i do wrong ?
This helped me recognize patterns in my errors and avoid repeating them.
My Strengths
Analysis: I can break a problem into parts and figure them out which method to use.
Reflection: I regularly look back at my mistakes and learn from them like when i do a mistake I go over it at least 2 times.
My Stretches
Time Management: Sometimes I spend too much time on one question instead of moving on. This means I don’t have enough time to show what I know on the other parts, even though I understand them well.
My Goals for This Competency
Goal 1: Improve my problem solving speed by practicing more timed questions before tests.
Goal 2: Ask more questions in class so I can learn different ways of thinking from my teacher and peers.
Conclusion
Precalculus 11 helped me become a better thinker by forcing me to slow down, understand concepts, and then reflect on my work. This will not only help me in future math classes, but also in real life when I need to make decisions or solve problems.
Tech Team Quarter 1 Reflection + Core Competency
This term, I was mostly in Wave, where I helped students with their laptops. One time, I helped a student who was having issues logging into their device, and I helped figure out the problem and fix it. I spent some of my lunch time and class time helping out and learning how to troubleshoot small tech problems. I learned how to stay calm when someone’s computer isn’t working and how to check simple things first, like Wi-Fi connections or settings.
Some challenges I had were not always knowing what the problem was right away, but I learned that asking questions and trying different solutions helps. A small win for me was when I finally fixed one student’s laptop after a few tries—it felt good to help them and see it working again.
Core Competency: Communication
One of my biggest strengths in this area is that I can communicate clearly and politely when helping others. I always try to listen carefully and make sure the other person understands what I’m saying. I think this helps people feel more comfortable when their device isn’t working.
An area I want to grow in is learning how to solve problems faster and be more confident when fixing different types of tech issues. My goal for next term is to keep improving my communication skills and be more confident when helping fix devices or talking to teachers about tech problems.
STRENGTHS + STRETCHES + GOALS Reflection
One of my strengths in Active Living is that I try to support others and make sure activities are safe. For example, in rugby last month, I explained all the rules to everyone, even when some classmates didn’t listen at first. I often help set up and take down equipment, encourage classmates, and follow all the rules during games. I try to demonstrate fair play and respect everyone’s abilities, which helps create a positive environment for learning and participating. These actions connect to the curriculum’s focus on safety, fair play, and leadership in physical activities.
An area I want to grow in is participating more in activities. Sometimes I hesitate to join games or other physical activities, even when I know I can contribute.I want to improve this because joining activities helps me get better at skills, feel more confident, and have more fun, which matches what the curriculum says about staying active and motivated. To achieve this goal, I plan to challenge myself to join more activities, try new things, and speak up when asked to volunteer. By doing this, I can join in more, have more fun in class, and get the most out of Active Living.
