In this class, I want to learn how to do pottery because I’ve always seen videos and posts of people making pots or bowls using pottery but I have never actually done it. I also want to know the whole process of how you can change the shape of the clay and what materials are required. My goal for this class by the end of the semester is to make a working bowl. By “working bowl” I mean a bowl with no holes and that I can actually use it.

This week we will be working on coil pots. My goal for this week is to have made a successful coil sample. Last week I experienced working with clay and made a few things. Today I will be seeing if any of the things I created with clay, has exploded. I also got started on my coil sample and I realized I’ve been making small details instead of big ones, which made it extra time-consuming.
This is a flower cup I made in the first week of 3D Art. I’m proud of it because it was the first thing I made and it didn’t explode and it didn’t stick to the Bisque.

Last week, I finished my sample coil pot and all I have to do left is bisque fire it. For my inquiry project, I’ve been sketching my sculpture and what I want it to look like. Now that my coil pot is almost done I’ve realized that I squished down all my details, I focused on blending it so much that it all mushed together. You can still see the details but it looks very pressed down. As you can tell, I made a small handle for my coil pot and I have tested to see if it would break apart if I held onto it and it is shockingly sturdy.

Last week I finished my Monster Mug. I underglazed and overglazed it. I did a weird spin on the handle, by making 2 large curved triangles to represent sharp fins. I put it on one side of the mug so it can be used as a handle. I still haven’t seen what it looks like after glazing because it’s still getting bisque-fired.

Since I’ve finished my Monster Mug, my goal for this week is to start my inquiry project. For my inquiry project, I’m planning on doing a paper mache art piece. My art piece will represent what it’s like to have divorced parents. I have to first sketch what I’m planning on doing and then Mx. Vittie will help me get started on the paper mache.

This week my goal is to start my new updated inquiry project. I switched my inquiry project into a sgrafitto cup and maybe if I have enough time, I can make a whole set. I changed my project because I realize I wanted to make something I would use and would have more detail.

Award Project
For my award project, I am planning on making a science award. I want to make a science award because when I was thinking of ideas and who to give the award to, I thought of my sister. My sister is this smart biotechnology major that goes to BCIT and UBC. I am very proud of her so I thought I would make this science award and give it to her. In the board below, are my ideas.

This week I finished my Sgraffito Tile. The project was fairly easy, I just wish I added more tiny details to my tiles. I learned how to carve drawings onto my tile instead of painting them on. If I were to redo this project, I would paint it differently and carve it with a different tool. My goal for this week is to get started on my Inquiry Sgrafitto dish set. I am planning on starting on the bowl first. My theme is going to be flowers.
The picture below is my final product with Alisha for my Sgraffito tile.

I started working on my paper mache for my DNA award. I learned that for paper mache, Mx. Vittie uses Potato Starch instead of flour. After, I used fabric and glue to wrap it around the wire. SO it has a smooth texture.
I was away for the entire week last week. My goal for this week is to finish my paper mache and start my inquiry.
