1. A= Serbia
B= Russia
C=Austria
D=German
E=France
F=Britain
2. Austria pointed fingers at Serbia for the killing of the Austrian Crown Prince, as they were being blamed they (serbia) wouldn’t admit to assassinating the Austrian Crown Prince consequently, The Austria-Hungary Empire declared war on Serbia. Because Serbia was an ally with the Triple Entente that included Russia, Russia in defence armed up its troops to protect Serbia. Meanwhile Austria was apart of the Triple Alliance where Germany mobilized THEIR troupes to defend Austria.
3. The theme that seems to be shown is nationalism, where Austria makes an ultimatum to Serbia to make those pay who were involved with the killing of the Austrian Crown Prince, this then demolishes their nationalism
4. The theme shown here was Imperialism as by early 1900’s Britain catches up eventually passing Germany, German’s which is due to the newer infrastructure that was being built, Britain also in assumption thought Germany was denying their position in the world of imperialism.
5.Germany wanted to attack France but started with a weaker area so they invaded the neutral ground, which was Belgium. This caused France to declare war on Germany. Since France and Britain were close allies, Britain also declared war on Germany to support and standby France.
a) Who’s perspective does this represent? How do you know?
I think this is the perspective of the Serbians as it specifically shows the consequences of the actions in which the other regions show their aggression in how they play a part in this rivalry, and specifically with how it starts Serbia first.
b) Why is the first country depicted as a child?
Like I explained up at the top it sort of shows Serbia being babied as the man is saying “If you touch me….” He will like a kid call his parents for protection where in this case Serbia’s “parents” for protection is his alliance with Triple Entente.
c) What is the meaning of the title? Is it ironic or sarcastic?
The title “The Chain of Friendship” is actually ironic because it started of as very friendly treaty’s that turned into alliances which here is described to be somewhat their chain of friendship with one another, what’s ironic is that friends get into fights and disagreements so as alliances are a form of some type of friendship being beneficial to one another, it only makes sense they would get into arguments as well but in this case their disputes turn into a war.
For #2, identify the theme of alliances. Then explain the alliances that existed between those countries and why they had those alliances.
For #3, explain how Serbia supported Bosnia in gaining its independence.
#5 is militarism. What British policy would have created conflict between them and Germany?
#6?
For #7, it also shows how Serbia is the small one being picked on. It seems like the innocent one.
