In week 15 of Pre-Calc we learned how to add or subtract rational expressions. Their are about 4 steps you need to follow.

1. determine the lowest common denominator for both fractions
2. Then rewrite each fraction with the same denominator and changed numerators
3. Combine the numerators (add/subtract)
4. Reduce if possible

Example:

*on step 3 you can’t cancel out the expressions with one another because it’s a binomial meaning that if you wanna cancel something out you have to include everything because of the + sign.
