Reflection:

I chose to interview Tao because he is a good friend of my dad and if i was allowed i would interview my dad but I cant. And Tao has the same profession of my dad but it was interesting to hear from a different perspective and how he thinks about his work.  Because I can get a better idea of the work if I get more than one persons perspective and ideas.  Because with two understanding of a profession I can have an easier choice.

I Learnt that to be in the position Tao and my dad work as I need to start off and have a mechanical engineering back ground at the least.  And that the main part is since they are both experts at energy engineering they need to verify and make sure all building are up to standards and are quality buildings.  That will not fail for example in a earthquake.

The person I interviewed:

Tao Jang

His Roles and responsibilities:

Tao works as a Energy engineer working for BC hydro.

Works with the province, BC Hydro, other with his position etc. and collaborate with each other to make sure that building are up to standards.

Main goal would be energy code compliants for all buildings.  In a sense the energy policemen

Questions:

a) Why are you passionate about you’re job?

He is passionate about his about his job because it was at the beginning  a regular job and bringing money to the family and getting a paycheck.  But now it is more of actually doing something good for the community while working for BC hydro.  And it takes a while to be thankful and understand how long it took to ge5 in thus position and get recognition.

b) What obstacles have you faced to get you where you are today?

As a immigrant there language difference and knowing your dream if you work really hard being persistent and holding on to your dreams even when not in your home country but working hard enough can get you where you want to be even in these conditions of being from different backgrounds and countries.

c)What advice would you pass on to someone interested  in what you are doing?

IT depends on the personality because he is more of a technical person and being technical requires a lot of detail in what you do in everything and be persistent in it.  Because without being technical and detailed it can lead to not liking your job.  But if your more technical, it would be more of a passion and something you like to do. Not golden handcuffs where you dont like the  job but it pays well.  Which means in needs a lot of time will.  And being a energy modeler or engineer needs a strong background and experience of being a mechanical.

d) Would you be open to further contact from Riverside students and if so, how can someone contact you?

Yes.  Students can contact by (604) -528-7283   tao.jiang@surrey.ca

e) What is you’re favorite part of you’re profession?

It would be energy model codes and making sure the project meet standards.  For example a warehouse without insulation, but with there involvement they can make sure it makes the quality of construction is there.  Which all requires some background of Mechanical Engineering to make sure you notice and pay attention all details.  Which is not in all personalities and requires people like me.

f)What would you recommend as a starting point for someone interested in what you are doing?

Consulting work, and stating building design of different types of buildings with mechanical design and after a few years slowly getting to where he is.  Energy efficiency and standard is a hot topic to get familiar along with you’re skills.  And through the mechanical engineering background you can get to simulating and energy engineering and representing real life performances and operations.  The disciplines together to finish the jobs are Building envelope, architecture, building, science, Lighting, mechanical.

FEC + Gandalf assignment

Check Mate

Movement seldom happens overnight. For the most part, a change in attitude is brought about by small actions.

The Friday that everything changed proves this theme statement for many reasons.  Firstly, if you put this theme statements into simple words to briefly explain it to someone a good explanation would be that it’s rare to see change in society at night. Most of the time a change in how people behave is based on simple positive everyday actions that anyone is capable of doing.  FEC showed multiple times in the story these types of actions can make change.  Because Alma’s activating question soon led to Miss Ralston’s homerun which proved what the boys didn’t was possible, and in a sense was the equalizer.  But it was all started and originated from the simple question.  Which as the quotes states that movement rarely happens overnight and this small action by a dedicated individual was in the daytime in the middle of school coming from a young girl.

The stories theme relates to Gandalf quote because Gandalf’s quote relates to FEC and Miss Ralston, because they both conclude with the message that small everyday positive actions is what stops the bad and evil and keeps us safe.  Just in their own ways of saying but with the same meaning in the end.  They both mention any size actions can have big impacts, Gandalf shows that in his quote.  But Miss Ralston show it in her action, like letting the girls take the water, and the homerun.   And the theme of the story was mostly gender inequality and that small actions can make big change and impact.  Which is exactly Gandalf’s principal point in his quote where he mentions “it is the small everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keep the darkness at bay”.

I think a good example of every small to big acts of kindness would be giving unconditionally, and not expecting something back.  Like helping someone with packing luggage bags and not reminding the other about what they want in return.  But just having the idea in mind of helping someone.  Because these types of actions can be done by anyone which is what makes it a really important situation of everyday acts of kindness.  And it would make the world a better place if everyone not only listened to this but applied it to their lives too.

Never backdown.

Did you know that tackling someone from behind while sprinting in soccer can cause a red card?

I chose this image as it means more than you can imagine to me, and for multiple reasons. Firstly it represents my passion, and how it doesn’t matter sun nor rain I would still go outside to play and train for my favorite sport in the world, Soccer.  I have taken a few pictures like this in the past, though this one stands out the most due to it showing my progression after me playing soccer all my life.  This photo appeals to me the most for its ability to show and represent so much in one singular photo.  Soccer has been a large and important part of my life, so when something like this can show that and can at times also give a message for example if you want to be the best at what you do you have to truly try and practice day and night, sun or rain.  Basically persistence, especially in sports it can positively affect you emotionally and physically.  It cannot be placed under a price tag, because when you deeply think more about everyday objects like these, they can truly have a deeper meaning like this one.  And what is incredible is that you don’t have to be the best in the world to think deeply and descriptively think about a photo like this.  You just need to put your mind to it write your ideas that come to your head that makes sense and it can end up being something you never thought you could do in the past.  I would want this photo to be a solid piece of work and to be a reminder of me to never be a couch potato and always go outside to train when there is a chance after all other responsibilities are finished to enhance my skills and be the best at what I do.  If I was to sum it all up in a few sentences I would say that giving up should never be an option and when I took this photo I kept it, I didn’t trash it.  Because though its not some antique or old ancient piece, I can still use it a times when I need a little bit of motivation and spirit to play well and remember how I do at practices to apply the same in games and in the end, Win.

Name: Ali, Mahdi                                                                                                                                                 Date:1/15/2020

Electric Cars

Part 1: share

  1. a)

Here is the Chevrolet Corvette which is officially the fastest street legal electric car in the world now. The Chevrolet corvette can drive up to speeds around 186.8 miles per hour. And can reach 60 mph in just three seconds. As anyone would expect, this speed demon goes for $335,000. And surprisingly this vehicle also uses manual transmission like any other street legal race car.

This is one of history greatest milestone, the first fully electric car. And was built and developed in the united states by Willian Morrison, in the years of 1890-1891. It didn’t quite have a name other than being know as “the electric car” but the vehicle itself and the concept was invented by Scotsman Robert Anderson. It worked on using two electromagnets, a pivot and a battery.

Now if you think about most modern electric cars, the most successful company at the moment is “Tesla” and is well know for there vehicles abilities like the new “Cybertruck” as an example can have auto pilot and so do all the other tesla vehicles but it is an option that charges around an extra $3,000 and if pre ordered, about $5,000. And the actual definition of electric is that ”An electric car is an automobile that is propelled by one or more electric motors, using energy stored in rechargeable batteries” and one of the main reasons that most automobile corporations are making these changing to electric cars or “E car” is because our climate is changing, so we have to change our ways of living too. And one of them is pour use of transport. For example now we have the knowledge of making electrics ar, trains boats and we might even publish electric commercial airliners.

Part 1: Share

B)

Electric cars have many benefits like keeping a safe environment by using electricity instead of gasoline and some electric cars like tesla make it easier to drive for you. But if I was to make a statement to Justin Trudeau, I would say that making it easier in general to get E-Cars would be a great move and probably lowering prices can create quite a large impact on the future of this environment or this world’s climate change problem such as forest fires probabilities rising and rising water do to the melting of glaciers etc. Because using these tactics, the government can influence using E-Cars way better this way and more effectively like speaking about this topic more in front of the public more often to show the urgency about needing more E-Cars.

Part 2: Answer

  1. a) 1) What is the fastest electric car?

2)What was the first Electric car?

3)Why were electric cars made?

4)Will electric cars have a major impact on the future and why?

5)Is it possible that electric cars could be a necessity in a few years from now?

6)Is there a possibility that electric cars will be mandatory at some point?

7)Are there any ways that electric cars can possibly affect the environment negatively?

8)Have electric cars been a concept for a long thought out period, or is it a new concept that still can be improve way more than we can think?

9)Can electric car possible give advantages to criminal activity?

10) Will electric cars be one of societies biggest advantages against climate change

b)

I used a good number of digital tools such as

World Book online, World book student, Google, Bing, Gale engage learning science in context. And even a URL Shortener.

  1. c)

The process of that I took to investigate E-Cars started off by searching up some of my guiding question on search on a variety of search engines to see what differences were in the answer and which I could probably trust the most and I ended up using “World book online”, as I trusted from last year in grade 8 and found it as a trusted, resourceful, useful site. Then I began to search up more general type questions like what E-Cars and the literate definition are, or Why were electric cars made. Not that long after that I was beginning to put everything together, all of what I know and searched up onto the document piece by piece until it was one singular project.

  1. d)

I verified my information by checking where I got the tools that I used most such as gale engage learning science in context, and world book online which the two were found on the district pas making them school influenced databases. I cited all my images and information using MLA style by using a sheet that I was given by a teacher that explains on how to cite MLA style, but then realizing there are website for these kinds of thing I started to just use Citation Machine.NET.

e)

The process of this challenge went well for me because I would say I divided my time well also asked a few friends of mine too on different websites and school influenced databases they knew about. But the only thing that might’ve been the largest struggle for me was just posting on my edublog as it was difficult when having handing in late and doing other thing from subject like math convo 10 that were do this week. I think there were a few things I could have done better such as the overall view of this document because I didn’t really use font much or highlighting, bolding etc. And maybe my questions I needed to research my topic because I think I could make more guiding questions and maybe just more questions in ge

A fresh look at the Periodic table

Serin Ali Max

Sci9 Block B

DEFINE

  • The science community has offered you to try to make a new periodic table of our ownThe task at hand is about solution fluency and collaboration fluency.
  • We have been requested to make a new periodic table and customize it to our own.
  • We need to make the new periodic table more ‘hip’ so the youths of this country will be more interested and be more involved.

FINAL STATEMENT: The science community has offered us to try and establish a periodic table of our own. Are we capable of constructing a new and improved periodic table? The task at hand is about the progression of solution and collaboration fluency that was discussed in class with Mr. Robinson.

DISCOVER

  • How are we going to separate the elements, for example by atomic number? number of protons etc.
  • How can we use various colours and shapes to isolate and order the elements?
  • Which shape will be most efficient for all the information to fit into?
  • Do we have to include every element of the original periodic table?
  • Should we make the new periodic table 3D, digital, or on paper form?
  • Should we group and organize the elements by the family groups?
  • Does anyone know any apps that can help us do this assignment?
  • What are each of our talents and how can we use it to improve our periodic table?
  • Should we consider ordering the elements by their physical or chemical properties?

FINAL STATEMENT: (the questions above)

DREAM

  • We need to add and keep all of the atomic #, atomic mass, ion charges, symbol, and the name.  We could arrange it differently by ordering the elements by number protons or electrons for example one row being all elements with seventy protons or under. We could use a sphere because it gives us more freedom in how we can arrange the information.

FINAL STATEMENT: We can utilize spheres to give us more freedom on how we arrange the information. We desire to keep the atomic number, atomic mass, ion charges, the symbol, and the name on the sphere. The categories can be spread between the families or the periods. Our periodic table will be the same as the original, it will just be in sphere form.

DESIGN

FINAL STATEMENT: We desire to assemble a solar system with planets that obtain the elements inside of them. The planets can open up into quarters and it will have layers that have the information of each element. The different planets will be the categories of the element families (alkali metals, halogens, noble gases, etc.). Hydrogen will be the moon (apart from the other planets). We will base the size of each planet by the number of elements there are in each category. We will try to have names for each planet for more creativity and for labels. We will use the sun for transition metals because it has the greatest number of elements in it and dwarf planet for Metalloids because it has the least number of elements. We think that grouping the elements by its families was the best choice for our plan because we wanted a decent number of planets to make a solar system.

DELIVER

FINAL STATEMENT: Our periodic table is a model of the solar system. Firstly, the sun is a star for the transition metals. We chose the sun because it has the greatest number of elements in it. Next, we have the twin planets who are planets representing the Lanthanides and Actinides. They had the same number of elements, so we made it into twin planets. For the next one, we have the metals. Then, the noble gases. We also have a dwarf planet for the Metalloids. The Metalloids are in a dwarf planet because it has the least number of elements in it. The next three planets are Halogens, Alkali Metals, and Alkaline Earth Metals. Our final one is the moon, which represents Hydrogen. We decided to isolate Hydrogen by itself because it is the first element on the table. Each planet (category) will be opened in half so that everything inside can be seen. There are pictures of the elements applicable for the category. Each element has the information of the atomic number, the mass, ion charges, the symbol, and the name. We didn’t add any names because with the names, we felt that it could’ve been confusing to find the group of element that you were looking for. We decided to keep the labels as the family group the elements were in.

DEBRIEF

FINAL STATEMENT: We revised back on the process it took us to come up with a plan, and we were proud at how we really worked as a group and made the most of each of our capabilities and valuable skills. We felt that our periodic table was unique. All three of us combined our ideas together and came up with an exclusive plan for our final result. As a group, we could’ve improved on starting the design process sooner. For us, the design process took the most amount of time and because we had a due date, we tried our hardest to make the planets at the end look nice but have the necessary information. A road bump we had along the way was that we had to regain the memory and think back on how to use google sketch up. It’s been a couple years, so we forgot how to use it, but we searched some instructions and remembered how to use it. We chose google sketch up because most of us learned how to use it before and we just had to think back on how to add pictures and create spheres. At the end, we decided on the planet because when we combined all of our ideas together, that was the obvious choice on the best outcome.

Digital Footprint

q 1.  It can affect your future in a good way or a bad way for example: if you have a bad digital footprint and there is a university thinking about letting you in but check your negative digital footprint there’s a really high chance that they wont let you in even if you had a few scholarship’s, it can really ruin your future.  But it can also benefit you and affect your futur in a great way.  because if  there is a good university and they look at your good digital foot and yours has examples of volunteering exceeding in academics  helping others positive messages, there would be a high chance of being excepted, and just having a digital footprint is just as important because without one the choice of letting you in to there university would be more difficult.  Basically you should really take care of your digital footprint because whatever you post can go around the digital world fast and can be viewed with ease.

q 2.   A good way to keep an appropriate digital footprint is dont post anything to personal.  And doing anything illegal or negative and posting it, avoid going to bad places for example if you were at a party where there’s a bunch of drinking or doing drugs and doing a bunch of other unintelligent choices, someone at the party could post a picture of you or you were in the background and it gets posted, any body can just screenshot and send it within seconds.  And all of it can be seen by the university or school your trying to get in, which lowers you chances by a lot.  avoiding sending anything inappropriate should be one of the first to avoid because lets say you send something inappropriate to someone at the school, and that someone sends it to a group and anyone in that group chat can just tell the principal the principal can put that on your record.  And the school or university or job your trying to get in can see it and easily reject you.  those are some of the mains to avoid and keep an appropriate digital footprint
