Precalc 11 – Week 2

This week in Precalc 11 we focused mostly on exponents and how to deal with different types of problems including exponents. I learned a lot this week but i think that the biggest thing I learned this week was fractional exponents. Earlier this week when I was asked to evaluate a problem like this

I would have no idea what to do, not even knowing where to start. However, it is pretty simple once you learn how to change it into a nicer looking problem. The first thing you must remember is ‘flower power’. This means that you always root the base (8 in this case) by the denominator of the exponent (3).You can remember this because the roots of flowers are always on the bottom.

Then you can apply the numerator of the exponent (2) as an exponent to the number that is left over. Which leaves you with the final answer of 4.
