“Learning requires exploration of one’s identity”
Each person’s identity is sacred, which is one of the reasons why people are so exceptional. Having the experience to learn but also explore someone’s identity is what teaches us how to connect to everyone around us. The action of sharing stories and experiences has brought so many people together. In today’s circle talk there was a completely different atmosphere than what I felt before coming into class. Hearing other thoughts and learning about them through different fonts of the other classmates almost brought me closer to them. It was seen that our childhood experiences and our stories were translated to our very own words. What was shared wasn’t straight facts from a textbook, instead unique stories were heard from students. While talking, my own identity reflected on how I saw the world and how I felt in it, with all the people around me. From hearing everyone’s own words I developed new memories and impressions of the people in my class, while we all talked in a circle. Noticing our own identities in our world can be hard to recognize with the lack of inclusion, justice, and hidden folks who want to do the positive. Many people may not feel like they belong in today’s society but simply sharing a piece of their identity to others can assemble a feeling that they belong in the world.
