How might your digital footprint affect your future opportunities?
When you use social media, you create a digital footprint for yourself. It can cause missed opportunities if you aren’t careful about what you put out there. For example, when applying to a university or college, not only do they look at grades, etc. They also take a look at your digital footprint, because they wouldn’t want a person who can give the school a bad reputation attending. Another example would be when applying for a job, it works the same way, almost. You can have all the right experiences but a bad online reputation can ruin it all.
Describe at least three strategies that you can use to keep your digital footprint appropriate and safe.
You can start by putting your accounts on private to keep your info, pictures and videos, hidden from the whole public’s view. Keeping it accessible by the people you choose. Another thing you should be doing, either way, is to keep the things posted or said online positive. It can be used against you and also is just morally right. One more way is to just generally reduce the amount, of social media you use. Yes, it sounds drastic but if you never had social media in the first place, would you have a digital footprint big enough to ruin future opportunities?
What information did learn that you pass on to other students? How would you go about telling them?
You don’t need to let the whole world know what you’re doing 24/7 on social media. You could be doing something you think is acceptable without knowing how much it really will affect your future, and you might end up losing opportunities. In general just be careful of what you’re doing online, because it’s easily accessible by almost anyone.
