For this project we had to choose one poem we studied in class to analyze and write a composition paragraph on, as well as create our own poem connecting to something we studied this semester. The poem Mushrooms by Sylvia Plath explores the hardships women in the 1950s-60s had to go through. It really made me reflect on how progress is only achieved with struggled.
I created this poem Outcast based on two inquiry questions we explored at the beginning of this semester: How does inequality get perpetuated? What are the consequences of labelling others? I enjoyed using synesthesia to give my poem a personal in depth feeling. I also liked manipulating the literary devices metaphor and repetition to bring my poem together. I imagine this poem from the perspective of a five to eight year old boy struggling to be included.
Alexandria – a compelling poem that elicits a strong emotional response.
