In Biology 12 a couple weeks ago I had to practice my self-control. I have a big sweet tooth, and our lab had us using sweet-smelling gummy-bears…but we weren’t eating them, we were putting them in three mystery solutions and recording the results. We later found out by guesswork and confirmation with the teacher that the solutions were sugar, salt, and normal water. Here is a picture of the results before putting the gummy bears into solution:
After putting the bears into solution, we left them over the weekend to allow the solutions to change them however they would. When we came back, two of them were taking the entirety of the beaker up with their swollen mass, and the other gummy bear was devoid of any colour(it had been red previously). I was expecting one of the gummy bears to do this. This lab was straightforward, with measuring the gummy bears the only step that human error could effect the results. Overall, a fun lab!
