The Whirligig Novel COL Assignment

My flipbook is an assignment on the novel “The Whirligig” by Paul Fleischman. The assignment was to create 2 Instagram accounts for 2 characters in this book and make them meet online. My flipbook explores a few themes that were present in this book. A few examples of these themes are balance, interconnectedness, self-identity, and unseen forces. My character’s Instagram account explores best the themes of self-identity and balance. Flaco’s posts explore his perspective of the balance of peace and chaos, and how he tries to even them out. Brent’s account shows how he changes on his journey and how his metamorphosis changed his and other people’s lives. My version of Brent’s account explores 3 parts of his journey: his time before the journey, his thoughts during the journey, and the time after he finishes his adventure. This assignment challenged both my creative and critical thinking. It challenged my creative thinking by making me make myself believe that I am in these characters’ shoes. It challenged my critical thinking by having me think of the chronological order of each character’s posts and how to make each character grow on their journey. This project was enjoyable because it was different from the regular kind of assignment. I think I learned a lot from this challenge and that it improved my literary and critical thinking skills.

Thank you for posting your flip book, showing your understanding of the piece of literature, “The Whirligig.” Here are my observations regarding your work:

    – Great job transferring methods of presentation (PPT > PDF > Flip Book > Embedded blog post)
    – Book has a combination of both text and photos
    – Has most of the components discussed that were to be included from the various social media accounts (did not mention where photos came from)
    – Layout looks somewhat professional with balanced photos, colour schemes, matching fonts, etc. (the photos do not all look like they align, and some of the captions are pretty minimal).

Overall, I thought you did a good job on this project!

    Thank you,
