Week 6 in math 10

Finding the Volume and Surface Area of a Hemisphere

This week we mainly focused on volume and surface area of different shapes. What I took from this week is how to find the volume and surface area of a hemisphere. All the other shapes have the formulas given on the sheet of paper, however hemisphere is something we have to memorize. A hemisphere is half of a sphere.

In order to find the formula for the volume of a hemisphere you take the formula for a sphere which is frac{4}{3} \pi r^3 . Then you would multiply that formula by frac{1}{2} , because a hemisphere is half of a sphere. And all that will give you your final formula which would be V = frac{2}{3} \pi r^3 .

In order to find the surface area of a hemisphere you take the formula of a sphere which is 4 \pi r^2 . Then you would multiply that formula by frac{1}{2} . And the formula that you would be left with is 3 \pi r^2 .

All you really need to know is what is the radius, once you know what the radius is you put that number into the formula than calculate it.
