Week 5, Burton Math
In this week I learned what a z score is and why it is used. A z score shows how many standard deviations above or below the mean, a set of data is. This is especially useful in figuring out if your piece of data was in a higher percentage of people who passed a test, or if you were below the average and failed. The standard score is a very useful statistic because it (a) allows us to calculate the probability of a score occurring within our normal distribution and (b) enables us to compare two scores that are from different normal distributions.

This week in class I learned how to use a Z Score Table.
because there are no negatives on the chart, this shows the positive side of a z score graph. If you have a z score of 1.28, you can use the whole number (the 1) to know tht you must go up by 1 standard deviation at least. It is used to find the probability that a statistic is observed below, above, or between values on the standard normal distribution, and by extension. If you have a Z Score of 2.0, the table says that it’s equal to .9772 which is 97.72%
