From the past centuries, racism was very crucial to the blacks as they were treated as slaves because of their physical appearance and social status; however, compared to now, there’s a significant difference as there were people from the pasts who fought for their rights – especially the Africans who have suffered from slavery. In my opinion, racism in the past was brutal, and people were physically and verbally abusing other race mainly because of their ethnicity, and color. Because of racism before, victims of racisms – specifically blacks, had a hard time to get a decent job because people were stereotypical and it affected their way of thinking about themselves – emotionally and physically. Similarly, some white people didn’t stand up for the victims (blacks) and were distant because they were scared that others will judge them for defending other race.
As a result, some victims felt like the racists were too abusive and evil, so for them to stop the brutality, they began creating their organization to fight back against racisms and stood up for themselves such as The Black Panther Party. The organization was formed by the black people, and their purpose is to protect their fellow black people. Similar to the BPP, there were also the Malcolm X, Martin Luther King Jr., and other activists who awakened the close-minded citizens and help stop racism, inequality, and slavery. Martin Luther King Jr. believed that all men are equal and dividing people against each other and use it for violence; to make the society better, he became a leader, traveled around with his supporters, and influenced Americans to be aware of the history of racism and its current status. Aside from him, there’s also Malcolm X also known as Malcolm Little who shares the same principles as Martin Luther King Jr. that there will peace as long as all race treat each other equally instead of fighting against the each other.
As of today, racism still exists in our society. However, there are still people and organization who fights for their human rights and identity. Because of the past generation’s (The BPP, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King Jr., and other activists) action for racism, slavery, and equality, victims stood up for themselves and fought back for their rights. Also, there are movies nowadays that gives aspiring black actors exposure in the film industry such as Black Panther, Men in Black, Malcolm X, and more movies Africans-Americans are cast in; some were also documentary movies to show the life of blacks. Besides, schools also acknowledge racism, slavery, equality, and aboriginals to teach students as it shaped our present today that it is significant. Especially that what we say matters to others matters to other individual and that would be one factor to improve our society at least.
