Community Connection

For this community connection assignment, I chose to interview Joven Cruz, who’s my mom’s friend and co-worker at Superstore. He’s a department manager/supervisor in Superstore. He used to be a stock clerk, but because he was hardworking, he got promoted to this job. As a supervisor, he has to make sure that all of his employees in his department must follow and maintain the store’s policies. He directs the employees on what they should do and not only that because supervisors also have to ensure that the customers will get satisfied with the employees who he has been trained. I chose him because I also want to be a supervisor that will make organizations and plans for my department, including the employees. Like him, I also want to give customers a satisfied look while grocery shopping by giving them a hand. It’s also interesting because as a supervisor is like you’re “the boss,” and your employees will look up and depend on you as their leader. In this interview, I learned that people don’t need to be a high profile citizen to be a supervisor because what matters is that you’re persevering and hardworking to be able to get the job.

Questions:

Why are you passionate about your job?

One of my greatest passion at work is helping others. I like helping people find solutions that meet their specific needs at the store.

What obstacles have you faced to get you where you are today?

Before then, I was just a typical employee, and when my manager told me about my promotion, I was proud and happy back then, but other people looked down on me because they think I don’t fit to be a supervisor. However, I looked on the positive side and asked myself, “Why would they promote me if I they didn’t see that I have the potential to be a supervisor?”

Yes, I like my job because no one’s bugging me, and I like to make sure that I can provide solutions for my customers’ needs in the store.

Do you receive a right amount of wage in your job?

Yes
