Math 9 Equivalent Expressions

Math 9 – Equivalent Expressions

First, group them by their like terms. When grouping each term make sure the variables and exponents are the same, but the coefficients don’t have to be the same at all.

After grouping them,  sort them by biggest to smallest.

Then remove the zero pairs, and the remaining terms will be classified as the final answer.

Algebraically:

(-2x^2 + 4x + 7) + (x^22x – 4)

-2x^2x^2 = -x^2

4x2x = 2x

7-4 = 3

-x^2 + 2x + 3

Another example of adding polynomials algebraically:

(6m^2 + 3n + 5) + (-10m^2-2n – 8)

6m^2 -10m^2 = -4m^2

3n -2n = n

5 – 8 = -3

-4m^2 + n – 3
