Currents of the Kitchen

Purpose: Which fruit will produce the most electric voltage?

Hypothesis: When attaching the battery to a Orange or a Lemon, it will have the highest voltage amount.

Materials:

  • 1 voltmeter
  • 2 wires
  • 1 nail
  • 1 copper strip
  • a orange
  • a pickle
  • a lemon
  • knife
  • zinc and copper

Procedure

  1. Cut the piece of fruit
  2. Put in 2 pieces of metal
  3. Attach to the voltmeter using wires
  4. record the results
  5. compare results from several pieces of fruit

Why? I feel that the citrus in the orange and lemon will produce some voltage.

Results

  • Small Orange = .4 volts
  • Big Orange = .3 volts
  • Lemon = .5 volts then .8
  • Pickle = .8
  • Pear = .5 volts
  • Potato = .5 volts

Conclusion

My hypothesis was wrong, the citrus fruits didn’t produce the biggest charge, the Pickle and Potato did. I really thought that the citrus would produce some sort electrical charge, but I was wrong.
