1. Skills to Learn
a. What woodworking skills or techniques do you hope to acquire this semester
I want to improve on my use of hand tools and measuring as they are both key skills when working with anything to do with trades.
b. Why are these skills important to you
I would like to get into trades after high school, preferably an electrician, so I would be using hand tools quite a bit, and cutting wires to a certain size is very important.
2. Projects You Want to Try
I would like to make a sword and shield display to put up on a wall, as in all the pictures I have seen across the internet, they look really cool and fun to build.
a. What types of projects are you most excited to create in woodshop?
The passion project(s) where I would get to choose my own item to build.
b. How do these projects connect to your interests outside of class?
It would depend on what I am building, but if I am building it by choice, then I like it.
3. Life & School Connections
a. How could the skills you learn in woodshop benefit you in other school
subjects (like math, science, or art)?
In math, they always have word problems and trigonometry, and in Physics the same.
b. How might these skills be useful in your everyday life, future hobbies, or even
a career?
These skill I will learn in this course and other tech-ed classes will benefit my future career as I will be going into the trades.
4. Personal Goals. By the end of this course, what would make you feel proud of your progress
in woodshop
If I am able to complete all the mandatory projects such as the 3D cutting board and the jewelry box, and 1 project of my own choice, and I have a good understanding of all of machines and hand tools.
