Modelling Mitosis

This is interphase, this is the longest phase of the cell cycle. Interphase is when the cell grows and is a stringy substance.

Early Prophase: Spindle Fibers form after the nucleolus disappears.

Late Prophase: The spindle fibers start attaching to the centromeres. The nuclear membrane disappears, the spindle fibres attach to the chromosomes.

Metaphase: all the chromosomes move towards the middle of the cell. (equator)

Anaphase: the spindle fibres start to pull the sister chromatids to opposite sides of the pole

Telophase: One complete set of chromosomes is at each pole of the cell. A nuclear membrane forms around each set. Then the nucleolus forms and the cell is ready to divide.

Cytokinesis: The final stage of the cell cycle and divides the 2 nuclei into 2 daughter cells.

That is how mitosis and the cell cycle work.

  1. Good work including pictures and descriptions of the complete process of mitosis. Your post is effective in explaining how mitosis works.
