Here is my Sway for the Wonder Question project:
What questions did you need to research in order to create your sway?
I needed the following five questions to research in order to create my sway:
- What Is the Best Way to Stop Climate Change?
- What Has the Canadian Government Already Done to Stop Climate Change?
- What Actions Should the Canadian Government Prioritize to Stop Climate Change?
- How Should Canadians Take Action in Fighting Climate Change?
- How has the Canadian Government Already Helped Canadians to Take Action in Fighting the Climate Crisis?
What new or familiar digital tools did you try to use as you worked through this project?
I was already familiar with tools such as Google, Edublogs, and Citation Machine while I also used new tools like Sway, Pexels, as well as using a government website (canada.ca) to get the information I needed about current climate action.
What was the process you used to investigate the topic, and how did you verify and cite the information you found?
I investigated the topic through government sites, reliable channels, and websites such as environmentaldefence.ca and Our Changing Climate on YouTube. To cite the information I used a citation machine from citationmachine.net, and as for verifying my information, I used only sources from which I had researched the author and made sure that they were up to date. For example, when I found the article “Paying Polluters; How Much Canada Gave in Federal Support to Oil and Gas in 2020” linked when I searched my 3rd question I followed these steps:
- I checked the date, which was relatively recent from April of this year.
- I checked the author credited, which was Julia Levin who was ascribed as the Program Manager for the Climate sector for the Environmental Defence advocacy organization.
- Finally, I checked if the work in the article was properly sourced, which was indeed the case as every claim in the article was sourced or quoted.
How did the process of completing this challenge go? What could you have done better?
Completing this challenge went very well except for the bit of confusion I had at the start about how to create a sway presentation. As easier as it would have been had I chosen to do a PowerPoint instead of a Sway, I am glad that I stepped out of my comfort zone and used something completely alien to me. I don’t believe I could have done anything better other than perhaps being more decisive and productive about the slideshow itself for I had a slight difficulty with the designing aspect of Sway.
Wonderful wonder post! I appreciate you bringing up the concept of an environmentally stable society. I also appreciate the wisdom in considering that some climate change reducing actions might be options for only certain people in privileged circumstances. Finally, I thought your greater question around a partnership between Canadians and the Canadian government a very meaningful one. Your conclusion gave some ideas around how this collaboration could take place. What would you focus on first?
Hey Mr.Robinson, thank you for the feedback! When it comes to how the Canadian government and Canadians should collaborate, I think that the government should support Canadians so that they would be able to make sustainable choices by primarily funding and creating programs such as the iZev program in other sectors such as the accessibility to sustainably packaged and sourced food in stores as well as everyday items such from eco-consicese laundry detergeant to reusable diapers.
