The political spectrum is essentially a scale of being more left wing or right wing. It is meant to compare parties or people by putting them on scales to compare how right or left wing they are or how much of a conservatist or liberal they are.

Left wing policies are very for the people and that every one should get something or get what is equal. Right wing is about conservatism and abiding to certain hierarchy’s that are traditionalist.

Authoritarian is where you have a government in power enforcing rules that restrict your liberty. Lbertarian is where  you have a government where they are pro liberty meaning the advocate for your right to freedom.

Ingsoc and big brother fit along the lines of authoritarian/fascist government because they want to control the people and restrict their freedom. they have thought police to catch you before you commit a crime, they have posters reminding you big brother is always watching, they have helicopters surveying you at night, they have cameras on telescreens to watch you and they have cameras all around. the citizens of airstrip one essentially have no freedom

Cancel culture in “1984”

  1. f) Provide examples of cancel culture in 1984.

in the first few chapters Goldstein appeared in the two minutes of hate which is kind like the books own way of cancel culture where everyone in the room for two minutes was hating and screaming profanities because they disagreed with the person. how ever Goldstein was talking about having freedom but this is something people disagree with in 1984 because they need to follow the orders of big brother.

2.g) Do you believe society should be able to cancel someone?

no, just because people disagree with someone doesn’t give them the right to cancel someone

  1. h) Who is Withers and who is Ogilvy?

Withers was one of the characters in 1984 that was disgraced for reasons not known but was theorized for corruption or incompetence

Ogilvy is a made up character in 1984 fantasized by the main character Winston

Winston from “1984”

Winston Smith is A male middle aged character from the novel “1984” written by George Orwell. Winston is the main character who works at the fictional work place called the ministry of truth where he works as a writer. The funny part is he doesn’t actually write he uses as device where he speaks and it writes for him. some descriptions about Winston is that he looks a little aged and that he doesn’t look the most attractive. Because of this later on in 1984 we can see that he gets frustrated that he cant be with a girl because he think she will not find him attractive and she’s part of the though police and he already committed a thought crime. The crime he committed was in his space of living which is inside a place called victory mansions. He wrote in a journal about how he doesn’t like big brother who is the leader or top person who watches over airstrip one. So far Winston doesn’t seem like the most likeable person his thoughts and actions are some i do not agree with. i have come to the conclusion that i do not like him as a character he is self obsessed and a has a bit of a superiority complex.

Canadian Public Broadcasting

Public Broadcasting is a media that allows information to be spread easily. The Public Broadcasting that Canada uses is Canadian Broadcasting. It was first officially known as CRBC in 1936 and did the first live coast to coast Broadcasting in 1958. The advantage of using Public Brodcasting is it is a fast way of spreading important information. A reason why some people may not agree with Public Broadcasting is because it’s funded by the government so it is possible that these public broadcasts can be coursed into sharing government propaganda. Public broadcasting could talk about topics that younger audience might want to hear about.
