- How might your digital footprint affect your future opportunities?
My digital footprint could affect getting a job later in life because if I apply to a job they could see the dirt that I may have said on twitter or Instagram. Also, it the people that are interviewing you could just simply search your name up on google and click on a twitter post and obviously what i said before they could see offensive or inappropriate that i posted. I would not want my digital footprint to be a negative thing because if it was a positive thing it will not affect my decision of whether i get to pursue my career.
2. Describe at least three strategies that you can use to keep your digital footprint appropriate and safe?
1: know what’s out there, you can’t effectively manage your digital footprint if you don’t know what it looks like. You should take the time and google yourself up and see what comes up, because you know that your future employers definitely will be. If you see most of the stuff positive great, but if you see stuff negative try and remove it. 2: Make sure that your private posts are private, make sure that any posts or comments that you wouldn’t want a future employer/ boss to see are locked down, always double check the settings. 3: Even if you delete something from the internet, you need to realize that its still stored in databases and achieves and its likely to be there forever. In many cases, even if you have deleted it, it can still be accessed. Think twice before you submit!
3. What information did you learn that you would pass on to other students?
That you need to be careful on what you comment on things and what you post on social media. Also no matter what you do online it’s important that you know what kind of trail your leaving, and what the possible effects can be. Also use privacy settings, don’t overshare use a password keeper, monitor linking accounts and understand that searches are social.
