Desmos Art Functions Card 2022

For my desmos project I made Scooby – Doo. This was a very challenging and time-consuming project that really tested my patience. The way that I figured out which equations to use was understanding what I could do with transformations, and what the general shape was for each of the functions. Before starting the project, my knowledge of transformations wasn’t poor, but there was room for improvement. The number of challenges and setbacks that I faced during this project is insane. My first challenge and or mistake was not starting the project until mid December. This put me about a month behind where I needed to be. The way that I overcame this setback was putting in a lot of time and effort over winter break to get a good amount of the project done. However, the problem with jumping right into projects or assignments is that you may not know exactly what you were doing. So, for the first week of working over winter break, I had done the project completely wrong by doing individual functions and not transformations, and I had to start the entire project from scratch. It took me a couple of days to understand how to transform each function in a way that would work to create the shape that I wanted. I had an aha moment when I started understanding how to use transformations and function notation to get this shape that I wanted. After that, it was still a painful amount of work to do, but it started getting a little bit faster because I at least understood how to do it properly. Another aha moment was when I figured out a better and more efficient way to colour Scooby. The way to colour was basically picking a line so for example A1, then creating an inequality to have the y value be greater than A1 but less than for instance A3. I did not get any help for the project other than the occasional how do you think this looks and do you think this is the correct function to be using in this situation. However, when I understood how you are supposed to do the project, I ended up helping others a lot and this made me feel a lot more confident and faster at my own project. This project is by far the easiest way to expand or help your knowledge of transformations and function notation. For every single line, you need to use transformations and function notation to get that original function into a different shape that you want. As I mentioned before you need to have a good understanding of what each function looks like to make it easier to make the shape that you want. Doing transformations for this project has helped me so much that I barely studied transformations for our Final Exam.
