Week 6 Pre Calc 11

This week in Pre Calculus 11 I learned how to solve quadratic equations by factoring. A quadratic equation is any equation that can be written in the form of ax^2 + bx + c = 0, where a, b, and c are the constants and a does not equal 0.

For example:

When trying to factor quadratic equations, the first term multiplied by the third term is the product. Second, the second term is the sum of the factors of those two terms. So in question a, it would be x^2 multiplied by -8 which is the product of -8. So, the factors of 8 are 1,8 and 2,4. The two factors that add to -2 would be the 2,4. SO next we can put (x-4) and (x+2) = 0 as our two pairs. Next, we just need to solve for the x’s, so just by looking at it we can say that x=4, and x= -2. However, we can also do this algebraically just by having x-4=0 and x+2=0. So first we need to get x by itself in one side, so +4 and +4 on the side of the 0 to get x=4. For the other pair, we need x by itself so we -2 and -2 the other side to get x= -2.

Let’s try a harder question,
