The political spectrum is a graph that shows the values and level of authority a party follows. A political spectrum is divided into 4 quadrants. The difference between left and right-wing politics is that the left wing is liberal, which means that they like change in the government, they also specialize in funding services like schools, roads, etc. In return for higher tax rates (big government). Right wing is conservative, which means they don’t like change (Like to keep things the way they are), they also don’t fund as many services which means lower taxes (small government). The difference between authoritarian and libertarian governments is that authoritarian governments prioritize law and order at the expense of freedom. Libertarian governments prioritize the freedom of the people at the expense of law and order. The government of INGSOC and Big Brother fit into the top right because the right wing is conservative, and they don’t like change which is the same with INGSOC because they keep the same order on the people, they are on the top part because they are very strict on laws and order with the people not having much freedom.

Winston from “1984”
The person I’m basing this off of is Winston Smith from the book “Ninteen Eighty-Four”. Winston Smith is the main character of the story. He is an older man from the outer party who lives in what he calls “victory mansions” which look nothing like the name, in reality, it is a run-down apartment. Winston Smith is a 39-year-old man, with wrinkles on his face and black short hair put into a side part hairstyle. Smith grew up without a mother in his life, which could contribute to his disregard to woman because he has a sexual attracting to the girl he calls “the black-haired woman”. The fantasies he has had about the girl are both gross and discussing because he knows a young girl like her wouldn’t want an old man to him, so his solution is to get rid of her by what he said as “beating her”.

Canadian Public Broadcasting
Public broadcasting is a type of broadcasting which is funded by the government, cannot be bought, and looks towards the minority also because they put the audience before their revenue. Canada’s public broadcaster is CBC news which is also funded by the government. CBC was founded in 1936 with only access to the big city areas, then in 1938, it reached the rural areas which meant they could reach more remote areas to broadcast to which also increased their audience, then in 1958, CBC had their first live broadcast from coast to coast, which meant that they could send one live broadcast all to be viewed all around Canada instead of sending multiple signals to different places around Canada. The advantage of public broadcasting is that they have mandates to follow in order to receive their funding from the government, and this mandate ensures that what they say is unbiased, talks about Canada, and that they acknowledge the minority of Canada whether this is religious, cultural, or ethnic minority. I feel that one way they could appeal to the modern audience while sticking to their mandate is to instead of bombarding the modern audience with all these politics and other stuff that would get them bored, they could make it more interactive like for example have a game during their breaks like a guessing game for example, or even start talking about news that could relate to the modern audience like for example new games coming out, or even new technology, etc.
