HCE assignment 2

Assimilation is the process where individuals or groups of differing ethnic heritage are absorbed into the dominant culture of a society. A good example of assimilation is first nation kids in residential schools because in the residential schools, the kids are taught only European culture and were never able to express their own culture. this was enforced so hard that after the residential schools, a lot of the kids who are now adults have forgotten how to speak their language. When looking at this image, I see that on the left side the kids are very dull, sad, and not lifely, I feel that this shows the kids during residential schools because they look very sad and like they lost apart of themselves which I think is why they look grey in the picture. On the right side, the kids look very happy and full of life. This is because there are no more residential schools and they are free to express their culture and you can tell by seeing that they have gotten back what was part of them which is their color in this picture
